From what I have seen typically CCP likes to give 100mil/hr in loot (overseer stuff) and then let RNG fill the rest in with higher value items. (This is in HS)
Other than the Overseerās effects and Faction module drops, everything is basically a crap shoot (this includes SKINs and boosters). The rest of the Winter Nexus-specific loot is basically worthless.
I dunno, Iāma getting so much loot I feel like Iām cheating

This is now the opinion of someone who spent 7 days hunting for data event sites in high sec. Many hours a day, mostly regularly scraping cans from under the noses of other explorers. I assume I did about 250 cans, maybe less maybe more.
First of all - there are no occasional jackpots for explorers in high sec. That is, the random True Sansha module, or the higher tier OPE, or the Succubus/Phantasm BPC. Two years ago, yes, such rare loot did happen. This year - no. Or maybe I didnāt do 9999 event data sites to have a proper sample and draw conclusions, but hey - itās supposed to be a chill event with generous prizes, always has been, not a second job shift after first one in real life.
After 7 days I had accumulated loot with an estimated value of 700 million ISK. I did not collect snowballs, fireworks, mats required to build storyline items.
Drops were: OPE 5th-8th tier ONLY. Various accelerators (for science jobs). Significant amount of winter-themed SKINS (it is because of them that the estimated loot value is unrealistic, as it is inflated). Occasional winter event boosters (mostly tier I,II, rarely tier III) & regular combat boosters; very rarely cerebral boosters (most valuable loot). Quite a few winter event filaments too. Oh, and one winter event t-shirt for a woman.
I donāt want to be ungrateful. But after so much time spent hunting for data sites, I was hoping for anything better. I was hoping for the kind of results I had 2 years ago, where the grind actually paid off, because every now and then youād get a nugget of gold, worth a lot. At the moment, event data sites may be fun and a challenge of who gets first, but they are indisputably not profitable.
Given the recent Crimson Harvest event, where you could get a lot of valuable stuff from data sites (warclone banks, medium and high tier OPE, composite molecular condensers, etc.) what you can now find in Winter Nexus cans is simplyā¦ disheartening.
I would like to join in here with the request to CCP that they perhaps consider improving the exploration drops after all, so that players who enjoy scanning and hacking donāt have the bitter feeling that they are only getting crumbs.

Why should those pay well?
High-sec combat sites pay way better.
