Yield comparison of the new mining ships

Sorry if I haven’t been clear.

The Venture has two gas scoops.
It has a 100% bonus yield to turn 2 into 4 effective gas scoops.
It also has a 5% reduction in cycle time per level to at level 5 turn 4 gas scoops into 4/(1-5*0.05) = 5.33 effective gas scoops.

The Pioneer has three gas scoops.
It has a 25% reduction in duration role bonus to turn 3 into 3/(1-0.25) = 4 effective gas scoops.
It also has the same 5% reduction in cycle time per level as the Venture, to again bring 4 gas scoops to a 5.33 effective gas scoops.

So as you can see I did use the role bonus.

I hope that clears it up?

Okay, never mind, then you are correct, and I was wrong. My math was off. Thanx for the explanation.

No problem! Glad you kept me sharp.

The ‘catalyst’ expansion… is it some kind of sick joke?

The expansion added new Expedition Command Bursts which boost amongst others salvager range and salvager cycle time:

This is a big Catalyst buff!

Mining destroyer?

wtf

Indeed! And a faction Venture!

So besides buffs for salvage Catalysts the blaster Catalysts too get a nice update; more targets to shoot!

And have you looked at the stats of the Odysseus? If you can catch one of those loot piñatas your Catalysts will have a really nice day.

The Odysseus looks pretty sick though ngl…

Now you’ll have to start ganking asteroids. Not like the average IQ of your targets is going to drop much.

Once those Consortium Ventures, Destroyers and Odysseus’ go boom in HS, an endless stream of tears will arise. The same people that today lose a 500k Venture or Barge will then lose a faction ship and cry bloody murder why they could be blown up by a handful of dirt cheap Catalysts.

This update is going to be awesome.

I noticed that none of the new mining ships has a bonus to ice mining.

This means the Outrider and both Pioneers have 3 effective lasers towards ice.

While this makes them better than the Venture (2 effective ice lasers), but worse than the Endurance (3.55 effective ice lasers).

As comparison the lowest yield barge (Procurer) has 2.22 effective ice harvesters = 3.33 effective ice lasers, but can utilize the medium-sized ice harvester rig for 3.79 effective ice lasers.

I’ll add an extra column to the top.

Good day gents,

The new ships doesn’t seem much of an expansion— for example miners won’t find much meaning in swapping a expedition frigate for a mining destroyer.

The phased mining anomalies tries to refresh mining, but its not the kind of refresh miners desire.

I would argue mining missions need attention, and mining overall could use a simplification overhaul. The shorter mining cycles is a great start.

Last but not least, turning mining active won’t stop multiboxers—they already run entire C6 wormholes competently and that is not a passive activity. Just some food for thought. Have a good day.

What?

Mining is basically the most simple activity in EVE. People can do it with 20 accounts at once, so little attention, decisionmaking and awareness is required.

How simple do you want it to be?

Ratting is simpler than mining

Doubt. The floor might be equally simple to get an entry to the activity.

The ceiling is MUCH higher in the endgame content, while mining is just mining, no matter if you do Veldspar in a Venture or Gneiss in an Exhumer. If anything, the high-profit mining has to become more complex. A lot more, so complex that multiboxers will struggle to reach maximum efficiency and bots being unable to run the most profitable mining content at all.

Complexity isn’t harder for bots and multiboxers than it is for regular players.

Complexity allows skilled people and those willing to learn and put effort into an activity to outperform lazy ones. Which is a good thing in a competitive online gaming environment.

The resulting difficulties for multiboxers and bots are just an additional bonus. I neither have mercy with botusers nor do I like a game design that basically forces someone to run mutiple subs to make an adequate living out of his career path. Lazy multiboxers can always run the low- to middle-class mining content that requires not much thinking and acting, while skilled players should have options to engage in content that is far more demanding - and rewarding.

Botters and multiboxers aren’t lazy—running C6 wormholes takes skill and risk. They do it because it’s worth it. If you want to curb multiboxing, remove ISK-based Omega. Anything less isn’t serious.

We are talking about mining - which is so undercomplex that you can do it with a dozen accounts without getting asweat.

Sure they are, else they wouldn’t bot.

Not really. An Eos Fleet can do it pretty relaxed. I live in WHs for more than a decade and we are running HighTier Content for ages.

But anyway, we werent’s talking about ratting. Wait, didn’t YOU say ratting is even easier than mining? What is it now? I could imagine mining Ore in a C6 belt is way less complex than running the C6 combat sites… you are contradicting yourself.

But, if it was up to me, no multiboxer could even hope to do C5 and C6 sites. I would design them entirely as high-end fleetcontent so demanding that you would need at least 3-5 skilled people (yes, real people), working togeter else all the tasks being thrown at the fleet are impossible to manage in time. But thats just me, I like challenges and rewarding group play.

How about this?

  • Make the game great for regular players

  • Accept multiboxing will be widespread as long as ISK can buy Omega.
