I was in game when server was down! 
First, Many systems are more vulnerable during startup. Taking a system down, such as via a DDoS is a legitimate precursor to an infiltration attempt. Second, many infections can be staged and activate on a system start, so implanting then taking it down to engage it is a proven technique as well. Third, by observing the fail sequence, especially repeatedly, you can learn important details about the system and find exploits. This, too, is solid and proven strategy in executing an infiltration. One more for you: if you are reasonably certain a system restart would clear your tracks, forcing it to restart is another means of attempting covering up what you did.
Is a DDoS itself a data risk? Likely not; though Iāve seen systems under load begin leaking data. Some people design systems that attempt to fail gracefully and in so doing drop various security features. So while it may not directly be one, it is folly to insist they can not be combined or that a DDoS canāt be part of an infiltration attempt.

Technology exists to prevent DDOS attacks from being successful that can be utilized on the firewalls of CCP.
Though iām not gonna go and blame the victim for this, there is something they couldāve done to prevent this from happening to begin with.
Then again, for all i know they already have this installed, and this is a new form of a DDOS Attack.

If you provide an online service/ or run a huge shop you must let in customers.
If you have many security people in front of your entrance, people get in and out slowly.
If people (Information) get in and out slowly, customers experience delay (lag) the entire day.
Now what does a Customer want more:
A) Permanent lag coupled with a serious DDoS protection
B) Best performance + less security guards, because usually as a shop manager you would not expect terrorists each day or too much additional unexpected data like this.
However, A or B, in both cases, during an attack the customer WILL experience delay (lag).
#FeelsSad but this is a story about bad people not about the shop owner/ manager

Although no one wants these DDOS incidents to happenā¦ but to be fair, a lot of mitigation, prevention could have been done. Ever since the attack happened yesterday till now, CCP gave no word of what kind of attack it isā¦ ping of death or udm etc. and what are they doing to prevent a second, or in current context, a third attack.
Whenever ā ā ā ā happens, we try to be patient and u see nice players saying things like, āgive it timeā, āits not their faultā, "lets be patientā¦
We can empathise with themā¦ but they should also do better in their response.

if you loose ships in space due to servers dropping, you can submit a ticket to have them replaced

Lolā¦ no poors. A rattlesnake is expensive to you? Besides CCP does do a good job. They used to get DDosād all the time back in 07 and they took a lot of measures to prevent it.

I was playing the last time CCP was hit hard by ddos, as far as Iām aware they went to town on preventative measures after that, the fact nothing has gotten through in years means they must have done something right.
