2018/04/28 - 11:28 UTC - Connectivity Issues - DDoS Attack

well you are blocking some of the players like me i have to use a VPN to get in to the game

Nowadays it’s easy to spend some money to execute big DDOS attacks (just my viewpoint / no clue who are behing the attacks)… Could be just some kids without balls thinking it’s funny to mess with an awesome advanced MMO

Or could be bigger ā€˜actors’ on the cyber hacking trying out their tools on unfortunate victim…

Also: in short - It’s easy to DDOS a target, anybody can do and afford it. People with malicious intents can do massive harm to a target

PS. My own viewpoint / opinion
PPS. Imagine if this happened towards your own internet connection / router / computer

This has been happening all day. I give up time to go read a book…

bliz already got all they wanted from eve when they implemented a tradeable subscription token

Thank you guys for the hard work. Maybe follow through on that SP gift a little early eh?

Looks like there are some mad Russians out there now. Wow you block them from logging in one day and the next they launch attacks… Who would have thought that was possible.

Were I an alpha account, I would accept the apologies as part and parcel of a free-to-play service. As a paid subscriber, I’m not really interested in excuses. When I pay, I expect results (a Silicon Valley bias, I know).

  1. What will CCP do to prevent future disruptions? I don’t need to know details that could undermine the security provisions, but I do expect enough details to demonstrate that they take their failure to fulfil their subscription obligations seriously.
  2. How will CCP compensate paid subscribers for their inability to access the service they paid to receive?

My proposal:
45 Free SP/min–that’s in addition to what the character already trains on the active skill in the training que–for each minute Omega users cannot access the site, scheduled or not. To promote MCT training sales, 20 Free SP/min would accrue for characters on an Omega account but with no active training que.

A policy like this has the following advantages:

  • Increased CCP revenue through added incentive to maintain omega status and purchase MCT certificates.
  • Increased CCP revenue from more extractor sales as SP farmers accrue more total SP per month.
  • Increased MCT, extractor and omega sales as users take another look at SP farming to raise ISK.
  • Something of value to compensate users for their inconvenience. Because remapping only happens once per year, free SP is great for filling skills that don’t match the current attribute assignments.
  • Helps retain new users by helping them acquire critical core skills more quickly.

Experienced players drive the Eve economy and PVP content because they have the skills and resources to be highly productive and effective. Many are so productive that they essentially play for free because they use in their in-game money to buy their PLEX. Newer users–particularly, gasp, lowly care bears–make CCP profitable because they must pay real world money to purchase PLEX, MCT certificates or other items in the New Eden Store.

Perks like free SP for times without access help make the game more fun and accessible for the players who don’t produce much content but pay for the entire universe. New player retention drives revenue, which drives game development, something that benefits everybody.

its hard to track down a ddoser if done correctly by masking ip but being banned is the least of their problems if they get caught

:disappointed_relieved:

Possibly you might wish to look into your sense of entitlement and self importance, you probably don’t mean it but the way that post came across wasn’t very flattering.

You aren’t going to hear, what steps are being taken, because it is trivially easy to determine from that who their defense partner is in this is, and the routing to attack for the greatest damage to be caused.

Coupled with the demand for compensation from the victim for daring to bleed on your doorstep, pretty much turns one’s stomach.

But free thought is a thing, but a suggestion is not to put every inner thought down on paper, where others can see them, it isn’t pretty.

A little thought and consideration goes both ways.

I think the best bit of that guy’s post was the ā€˜silicon valley bias’ statement tbf… I think we may have hit a new level of self-important entitlement here

Oh no Eve is getting slow, not a good sign.

Ditto here - a very long time from character selection to in-client (from server side - my hard disk was sleeping through all that), and then very nearly 5 minutes for any of my chats to show anyone, including me… Not trusting enough to go anywhere, at this point…
