so, disconnects are still going on? i can login fine most of the time but, i stay for like 10 … maybe 20 minutes online before eve kicks me out with “socket closed” on me. i thought first it is an issue with my internet connection.
so, i grabbed my tablet and logged with lumiya ( thats a second life android app which is very sensitive torwards connection loss and would log me in an instant out if i would´ve lost connection on my own for some reason) in into second life and left it running, i got again a socked close from eve … but lumiya stayed still logged in at second life … so its definitly NOT my internet connection … for how long will this go on tho? peoples wouldnt be able to set foot into the abyssal space … we would lose tons of ships x.x
well, i think aslong the launcher still shows online numbers lower then 22k players online is this issue not solved. because usually are always between 22k to nearls 30k players online … sometimes even more (the max i saw had like 41k players online.)
the thing is, a friend of mine which lives all the way over at australia has no issues at all but i am in europe with another 2 friends and we get constandly disconnected while he is like “aww ccp still didnt fixxed the issue =(?” -_-
so that basicly means that some regions are totally fine while others having huge issues. maybe ccp should look into that direction =w=
I’ve been binge watching Sci-Fi shows for the past few days so haven’t logged into the game or been paying attention to the forums.
However after seeing this, don’t think I wanna go through the hassle of trying to log in right now.
One thing is for sure, in my 10 yrs of playing this game, the past couple of months has had way more stability issues then all the rest of the yrs combined. So whatever changes have been done to the server / launcher / website within the past year needs to be thoroughly inspected.
In my opinion this strange behavior that some ppl are playing the game fine and others don’t even manage to login is a collateral effect of the DDoS mitigation system… ppl from those areas where most of the attack is coming from are probably being caught in the “crossfire” and their connection are being filtered out too before it gets into the data-center… So unless the attack stops the problem will persist.
Funny how the vast majority of issues have been happening since the implementation of the new distributed chat system. Instead of trying to fix this (which has been ongoing for months now) they should scrap the idea and revert back to the old chat system. At least it worked and players didn’t have to resort to VPNs around the world to login.
The new site system is a good ideia from the performance and reliability standpoint because the old one would stress nodes unnecessarily… the new system offload some of the work to a entire different system (in this case a entire different data-center) … but I agree that the implementations is lacking some polish
So we’ve gone from stressed nodes to nodes that are now overloaded, and attempting to both login and stay connected has become an inherent nightmare. Not too mention that now it’s not just Russian players effected - but anyone worldwide.
I can’t imagine the chat system consuming a lot of bandwidth, server load or network resources. If it was then it should be dialed back accordingly.
Simply opting to not address the longstanding issues with legacy code gains you nothing when new features are implemented like this.
Update: Was able to speak with a GM. They are aware of the issue and are investigating. I agree with @Kalldaar with what’s currently ongoing. Unfortunately, EVE is a bust for the night. DDoS create a slew of issue and happens to many companies around the world. We will need to wait patiently as this storm passes and CCP crushes the rebel scum whom DDoS. Here’s to the late night the Rapid response team is going through today. Remember Caffeine is the answer!
I think you are confusing some things… the new chat system has nothing at all to do with the problems currently affecting the cluster… it not be even possible this to happen exactly because the new system is completely isolated from TQ, the only thing that interacts with the chat server now is the client and even then the chat server is nor required to the client to go online… Some login issues are related to the DDoS that the cluster suffered today, your connection is simply being filtered out before it gets to the data-center… TQ cluster is working fine right now… Most of the pass issues was caused by database problems… I’m not defending CCP
they need to fix their ■■■■ but some problems are beyond their control and being furious without trying to understand what is happening don’t help anyone…
I wouldn’t say the new chat system is “isolated”. More like it’s now even more vulnerable to DDoS attacks because it’s distributed. Wherever it’s located in the world this chat system still needs to communicate with Tranquility in the UK - so you still have a single point of failure. I can’t imagine all these VPN connections are helping, either.
If you distributed Tranquility across a worldwide array of servers that would be different (and I’m not advocating this because I think that’s another colossal can of worms that need not be entertained).
We’ve had database problems, ongoing problems with the new chat server, node load problems, DDoS problems, login problems, socket closure problems, network stability problems - you name it.
Ever since “braindead-in-a-box” was implemented and they cashiered 25% of their staff EVE has been in a tailspin. You can blame SQL2017, Intel, legacy code, the Abyss expansion and everything else - but the bottom line is management (or lack thereof).
Performance in EVE has been abysmal (pun intended) in excess of 6+ months and the fact that it’s now Summer and half (or whatever) of CCP is on vacation is inexcusable.
Incidentally, there’s no point in advocating anyone be fired (even if warranted) - because there are so few people left that actually have a clue how to operate things that it would be an even worse disaster.
When it comes to recruiting, cultivating and retaining talent CCP has performed miserably.
no… the chat system is client server only.. your client connects directly to the chat server.. no information is exchanged with TQ
yeah database problems is something they can fix if they really really want to… now… load problems is another thing… they can’t change the laws of physics and make a CPU that can handle that amount of processing in a single thread… yes they should try to make the server software more scalable but remmeber is a 16year old code… that is not easy…
I agree that in the end management is responsible to deliver what they sold us… nothing to add here
I mostly agree too.. but still… raging is not the way… the most efficient way to make CCP move their asses is not to play, being mad wouldn’t help…
I’m not entirely sure that’s the case, but I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. It explains some aspects of the issues that have been plaguing players while leaving others unanswered.
I’ve dropped from 5 to one character with the last set to expire early next year. I’m sure I’m not the only one voicing their dissatisfaction with their subscriptions - but CCP appears completely oblivious to these.
