2020/01/27 & 28 - TQ under DDoS

I am in Central US. Unable to connect reliably for 48 hours now. Traceroute to Tranquility dies at CCP’s DDOS mitigation partner in Tempe, AZ

This seems to be happening again. Any word on resolution?

Can’t always trust a trace, many network defenses block information like that, to defend against attacks. Just because you can’t “ping” it doesn’t mean you can’t get to it. ICMP packets are a vulnerability on a network. I know a guy in Wisconsin not having any issues playing eve. I see about 16,000 or so online on the server. I am trying to do a fresh install and will let you know how it goes. I am guessing it might be related to local clients dealing with the new 64 bit launcher…since many people call still access the game. I think it is related to 64 bit launcher having issues then (insert a DDOS) attack…causing confusion…I hope i am right…let you know after install…

Just warp to a asteroid belt, turn on hardeners/repair modules and use auto targeting missiles. That’s how I got the points. Don’t deploy drones, so you don’t lose them. Only click once on modules, and wait for them to start working. Not an optimal situation, to say the least, but this worked for me.

Yeah… I simplified for the masses… I am a network engineer. It isn’t the launcher… it is the DDOS mitigation partner doing their job… The DDOS mitigation (class B address range blocks) can be circumvented using a VPN client and connecting from a EU/Asia access point.

Thanks, but I’m fairly sure you are wasting your time with the reinstall. Let us know though.

Anything in the internet can be DDoS’ed it doesn’t esent matter who, we just happen to be unfortunate enough to be some clown [PROFANITY] current target.

CCP has yet to reply to anything, like they don’t give a shits

They do actually
They are refunding ships lost to this nonsense.

you all were saying?

Chas Aulmais is on to something here. Using a VPN now and no problems connecting as i have been having for days… Thank You, first bit of useful information i’'ve seen.

Yep…so re-installed the client. It is working better now but still getting all of the same issues. I would go with the VPN first to connect, then if you still have issues try to re install the client. Hopefully that will help get a few people back in the game. Even with a fresh install i still have connection issues.

Good luck!

I keep getting lag and disconnects as well

What VPN service are you using? I am sure many people don’t know where to start.

NordVPN, im new to it as well but it has a very easy to use interface, after running connected like a dream.

the vpn suggestion works. im connected to UK and am able to login. Using Private Internet Access and have been for years.

SO is it still not safe to do combat or fly?

Reading these messages makes me laugh. Most of you know sh*t about how the cloud works, or even EVE.
First, you are not on a server, you are in an environment called Tranquillity. But it’s easier to call it a server.
Second, a server or blade, as we call it, is a physical piece of hardware that can contain hard drives to hold the data, or the CPU’s, memory, etc, that runs EVE, and then there is the network gear to keep us all connected.
All this equipment is setup for redundancy. If a piece of equipment fails, then the backup blade is put in play, automatically. Failed blade is repaired.
Computer racks hold many of these pieces of equipment and my bet is CCP has many racks in play.

From the internet, the definition of DDOS
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) is a large-scale DoS attack where the perpetrator uses more than one unique IP addressor machines, often from thousands of hosts infected with malware.

For all we know, it could be our own players causing this. Not having their virus or malware up to date.
I’m thinking that some, not all, of CCP’s network gear have been hit with the DDOS. That is why some people can get through.

So stop yer b*tching and be thankful it’s a DDOS and not a virus taking your personal data off the drives.

There are people who do nothing but try to hack sites, for bragging rights only. And others who actually want to cause harm.

Good luck CCP. Hope you fix it soon. R/L sucks when you can’t play ;o)
