One small portion of the service is down. Yes, over the weekend, there should have been someone on it, but there isn’t. They took the weekend off like normal people would. I’m still enjoying the game either way. I will add this glitch to the ongoing story of the new toons I’ve created. Plus D-Scan still shows a lot of people in space still.

Yes, I really wish this glitch was planned, would have been interesting (though there will still be crying like during the blackout in null).
OF course, and there was crying when all the POS defenses went Skynet, and when Triglavians were cutting freighters in half for having standings of 0.0 but man those were exciting times
I wish I had IRL time to be part of some of that. I have read about it. They seemed to be fun times! I see what they are doing with FW and thought this would be cool to come back. Then this chat is happening, which makes it even better to build up a group of fresh toons! So many opportunities people are missing here! Come on, take advantage of this chat issue, get some interesting play skills in, and do something you wouldn’t dare do otherwise! Fly cheap stuff, get it blown up; why not!

It probably was.
CCP has wanted to remove local for 4 years now and has made repeated attempts to get rid of one of the most simple features of the game. This time they just went a bit further and removed the other chats, too… but you don’t need those, because you have external communcation tools setup anyways, don’t you?
Oh so instead of mining with, idk, 5 accounts I now mine with one because I need the other ones to spot the gates? 
Or fly expensive stuff. Don’t forget you can’t be reported to intel, because the intel channel’s just as broken as any other channel.
Imagine paying $20 for a subscription just to use the dude to sit in front of a gate to see who gets inside lmao

You’d just get bored watching 4 nullsec gates that probably noone will pass through for the whole day while watching over your un-foreman-ed retriever is hardly exciting, either.
Instead, mine with your usual mining fleet, and subscribe 4 additional omega accounts to get eyes on the gates.
Make that $80 for 4 sets of eyes.
Okay, I get it; not your cup of tea. No big deal. Take a break, touch some grass, and enjoy life! You don’t play 24/7 anyway; what are a few days off going to do? A few mill isk? In the long run, this is just a drop in the bucket. They will get this fixed eventually. Till then, enjoy some time away then. To others, try some PvP, try PvE with the threat of PvP, and get your excitement going with the unknown!

Ah, I’m on PC. The only thing I notice messing up currently is chat, which is no big deal for me. Plus if you still need in-game messaging, use eve-mail. That seems to be working still, at least between my toons. Back in my younger years, that is how I messaged with friends! Email, FidoNet, Dial-Up, and if you wanted to go really old, letters!!!
Is CCP paying you to shill for them in the forums or do you just do it for free?

I do it for free. It is fun. Besides, it is better than just reading about people crying about chat not working and saying un-sub. Just take advantage of a bad situation and make it fun in-game.

So this is the latest feature from CCP? Another swing and a miss. So much potential and so much letdown.
no local means 20k alts unsubbing and that leads to much bigger problems

It’s not just Local chat, but all chat windows including Fleet chat. All chat windows are progressively worse day after day. If they come up at all, they take a very long time to load, the chat channel names are gibberish for a long time. I tried to join a fleet yesterday, and the fleet chat channel would never come up.
I could live without local as it were, but when groups can’t even communicate with each other and in a timely fashion that’s very bad. A fleet chat window can not take very much time at all to pop up, many fleets are off the cuff gatherings and we need that communication channel open faster than we can undock our ships.
Again, I can tolerate local being glitchy for a while, but the other channels, the intel channels, the fleet channels, the corp and alliance channels, their unreliability makes me nervous about playing as I don’t want to lose a ship because of faulty intel.
To reiterate how bad the chat situation is, yesterday I eventually ended up with a fleet chat window, with activity, when I wasn’t even in a fleet! Confidence level 0.
