@CCP if the chat has been “offshored” to Amazon Web Services, that’s a huge mistake. You might have been bought and sold on the age old claims of centralization and cost benefits of low maintenance overhead, but these are the very same sales pitches given to all other forms of digital centralization of tasks such as thin-clients, main frames, and now “cloud computing”.
Ask your economists, subscription costs will ALWAYS be more expensive than fixed cost; you only have to wait. I work in AWS, and it’s insanely expensive, an instance that could match my computer at home would cost a third of it’s total fixed cost, every month. And you have to factor the costs of centralized down times, if AWS upgrades something that impacts you, that’s unintended and uncontrollable down time for you, and your customers.
It doesn’t work, and it’s not cheaper. I’m going through this garbage with my own developer team now, as we are all in the cloud to cater to security concerns about development pipelines.
I suggest you keep everything in house; and contract out expertise. Tried and true methods, that have built IT empires in the past.

This is exactly what is going on and why things are messed up. At least the game overall is not affected by the buggy chat, which was not true in the past.
That is interesting. Is fleet warp, as performed by the commander broken or is “Warp to” broken.
Can you warp to tackle using a watch list? I assume you can, and gankers are smarter than me about those things.
Fleet commands are still perfectly usable through access other than Fleet Chat

I wouldn’t be too sure of that assumption. I have been noticing some edge case timing issues, one of which may have cost me half a billion ISK, happening right as chat issues start showing up for me. So to assume that whatever is affecting the chat systems is Isolated to just that one system may be premature.

And this is why casuals are the death of any MMO. Not even going to try and explain to you the reasons for an outage of chat services is critical to any MMO, rather I wish you a merry journey onto the next MMO when you get bored of this one.

Just make a fu***** roleback dudes. This chat thingy really sucks. EVE is not pvp only, its more for me. Doing PVE stuff, doing pi. But it sucks getting hunted by unknows.

I’m doing PvE in new chars atm. The game is still playable 100%. Getting hunted is not so bad of a deal. This is a temp thing, don’t do the big money-making stuff till the chat is fixed. I haven’t PvP in over a year (not on Graedon).
I do agree price hike was bs with how the system is now. This can be resolved multiple ways, and a “roll-back” option exists. I hope there will be a technical explanation of what happened and measures put into place to prevent it from happening again. You try working with 20 years of legacy code, trying to modernize the code base (written in Python at first), and utilizing current techniques to solve issues.
Why should I pay to spend time away? CCP have taken my money now they need to honour their side of the contract and supply me with a playable game.
Making excuses for them allows them to ride roughshod over their customers. This is not the first time and probably wont be the last but at least they could pretend to care.
