2023/05/11 - Ongoing - Intermittent chat issues

Oh, I’m sure they’ll be offering it again once all this is worked out. I know people who were using the 7 days free to get a feel for the game before re-committing to subscribing who are now “nope”…

I had someone follow me across 20 systems in nullsec yesterday (when it was supposedly “fixed”). Got into a system with an alt, the alt couldn’t see the “following” character, yet I still could on the “followed” character.

I then had over 30 characters (I stopped counting) “follow” me between two high-sec systems today…

(Reds are common to both systems. Green was someone who actually jumped with me. Yes, I spelled Hykkota wrong in the spreadsheet).

And that was after I had to log out after the first logon because local (in Ahbazon) was empty (aside from all the people sitting on the Hykkota gate smartbombing the bejesus out of shuttles and snatching up anyone coming in from Hykkota.

I know someone who lost something rather large almost certainly as a result of the chat server issues and failure by CCP to deliver reliable local chat listings. At first we thought it was an exploit, but now I strongly suspect it’s just a game/chat client issue, and CCP needs to take ownership of it (and not just the “we’re only returning the modules that didn’t drop” crap either).

I have same issue in Curse. Made a ticket.

This is what happens when you offload a critical tool of the game to some affordable third party, and when the 2 sides desync, there’s no way for dear CCP to have both servers restart and resync. Thus we get f*cked till next downtime which, in most cases, means avoiding this game like the plague 'till the day after. In the meantime, we still give them money for one of the worst Customer Service and Quality Service ever provided.

Like, the settings menu: who tf ever asked you to change it?

People here complaining of losing a ship due to no local…
Have y’all ever used or even heard of the tool in game called Directional Scan (D-scan)?
You use that to location ships in a 360 degree arc around you and up to 14.3 AU distance…

Wormholers know how to use it pretty well, should ask them about it.

There is also another thing. Don’t fly something you aren’t okay with losing no matter what the reasoning is.

Bunch of freaking babies.

Hey smart*ss, the Dscan has the same issues as the chat. Reports stuff that isn’t there like scanner probes for hours even after local has cleared, for example. Or ships that you cannot find with your probes.

I must confirm that local chat is defunct, a couple of same player characters present in more than a dozen systems.

AFAIK there aren’t any issues with dscan right now, though there have been issues with dscan in the past, and the overview isn’t reliable at this time, either, though CCP has at least made an announcement about the overview bugs.

The probes you see on dscan are probes left behind accidentially, where accidentially means either the player forgot to scoop them before he jumped out of system (previous versions of eve would auto-scoop them when you jumped a stargate but this was modified somewhen w/o announcement), or when an “accident” happened to the probe controlling ship while the probes were out, i.e. it lost the hull and therewith the ability to scoop the probes. Probes used to get auto-scooped 60 minutes after having been deployed, don’t know whether they still do, but eve removes left-behind garbage after two hours, and that includes probes.

maybe it isn’t as clear as the local list indicates.

You mean “don’t own something you aren’t okay with losing”. Outside of NPC stations assets aren’t save even when docked. When Povchen happened, the NPC stations of a number of High/Lowsecs were dragged out of empire space, i.e. assets aren’t save even in NPC stations.

Which gives me exaclty what kind of information? Most player’s don’t use the default ship names and thereby don’t expose their names on dscan, and unless you’re in SOV null or wormhole land, not being alone in space and having random ships within 14AU is the most normal thing.

Even if they expose their names on the ships, standings and wardecs are setup for corporations and alliances, rather then individual players, so a player name doesn’t provide any reasonable clue, unless you want to copy paste it into the ingame mail composer or biography editor (chat doesn’t allow input while it fails to connect) and auto-link the player name component of the ship name to check the player information dialog … for each and every ship that passes through dscan … i.e. isn’t cloaked.

Nope chat still broken after DT on monday

Nice to see that chats are still useless. Good job, CCP. :+1:

You are even lying about it on your Status page, claiming that all Services are operational. Good job.

And no pirate FW sites…

Seem that the next try has failed to run eve on 10 C64…

Please start reporting on chat status. It’s broken and it needs to be clearly communicated your having issues.

“Our logs show nothing.”

There has been no improvement in the chat system since Saturday,

Local seems to work fine for me today (after DT). Or, at least it’s not as obviously wrong as it was yesterday.

Came home from work, didn’t noticed local chat has a delay. Landed in a drag bubble and when I was in my pod, local chat finally loaded the players in the system .
Fix this or just remove it completely from the game as it can be deceiving. You just can’t tell when it is working properly…

oh, that is why search is so frustratingly slow these days. Disappointing.

That’s a negative…chat is still sketchy
