Those aren’t locked behind a feature nobody else has any interest in, training a skill is something anyone with the pre-reqs can do, what region of gameplay is locked behind something that doesn’t involve spaceships?
By region of gameplay I mean actual world geography. Wormholes for example. You dont get WH sites outside WH space. Or abyss, its locked behind filaments.
If you use spaceship or not, if its actually good stuff, who cares? Certainly not me.
All it have to do, is include your character.
You don’t even know what you’re talking about, scrub.
Oh look, the scrub descents to the next level of sucking at EVE: showing up in random threads to post spammy nonsense at people who disagree with them elsewhere.
But go ahead and explain to the rest of us how you can have meaningful WiS content in a system that has one player in it.
(For anyone not obsessively reading every thread on the EVE forums, this person really didn’t like having their scrub attitude called out when they whined about how gankers/AFK cloakers/etc are not playing the game “the right way” or “doing real PvP”.)
Which is spaceship content locked behind spaceship activities, not seeing an issue with that, the issue people have is locking anything spaceship related behind crappy WiS gameplay
You have not even seen how good gameplay could look.
You are soooo biased. Why I dont even care. Seems irrational enough. CQ is the evilest thing for these people even if it was just a glorified relax room, without anything that would take away from your belowed spaceships gameplay…
Spaceship purists.
Doesn’t matter how good it could look, i’m here for spaceships not for wandering around inside a station doing very little, its still going to pale in comparison to any kind of dedicated 3rd person game, and as we have said, without some kind of compelling reason to use it most people won’t, there isn’t anything you can do inside a station that would be that interesting to the majority of players
Its called looking at it realistically instead of through the googles of “look how amazing it could be” without considering the fact that not that many people would bother using it, its been mentioned that without it gating access to something key to the game it won’t succeed, and people don’t want to be forced to walk around in a station just to unlock access to something for the actual gameplay side of EVE, the spaceships
Right, but a glorified relaxation room just straight up isn’t worth the work involved, thats the part people want to ignore, without a large chunk of the playerbase using it and some way to make money from it, its not going to happen
We are playing a spaceship MMO, it would be the same as if you suddenly added a dating sim element to a mario game or random match 3 puzzles to street fighter or a random racing segment to fifa games, optional crap is fine, but without a compelling reason for people to actually do it they won’t and then its just a waste of resources
That is why WiS will never succeed and why CCP isn’t going to bother bringing it back
Not entirely, our avatars and skills are more important and without them, without things other than shoting other entity in space this game would be so shallow, you wouldnt even look at it. All the drama, all the treason, all the agency, it is as good to fill other gameplay, not only using spaceship.
The only limiting factor was actually money and human resources for CCP.
This is what can bring down even the best ideas. Not enough resources.
See the thing people forget is, we aren’t actually our characters, we have a character image only to make us more relatable to the player, so they can “feel” like they are actually something in the game, we are never more than a spaceship, a flying bundle of skills that could have had any number of icons associated with it, hell in terms of lore we could literally just have been made to be AI programs that don’t exist outside of a ship and it would have played out exactly the same
Right, but you do realise that nearly everything in EVE still requires a spaceship yes?
Which has nothing to do with WiS, because that wouldn’t actually add to any of that
And the fact that there is no compelling reason to engage with other avatars in a WiS environment, without locking something behind that feature most people will not use it, pure and simple, people come to EVE for spaceships not to walk around in a station, and that will never change
The resources are an issue when the RoI is non-existent, there wouldn’t be enough return on the investment to justify the work involved with maintaining what would essentially be a large chunk of a second game attached to the first, people need to accept this reality
PI, Project Discovery, Market Trading and Research are not “spaceship” activities.
Neither was DUST and at the time of CQ I had assumed CQ would be the gate to DUST in EvE.
I cannot believe that wasnt part of the original plan.
Gameplay could look awesome.
I mean, I’ve played games that specialise in walking your character in a 3rd person space setting and it looks awesome. But those games have ‘walking a character around in space setting’ as their core gameplay, much like EVE has interactions between space ships as their core gameplay.
As a result, I’m afraid that EVE, even if it puts a lot of resources into a new gameplay engine untelated to the core gameplay, will never catch up with what is actually possible for 3rd person gameplay, without completely alienating the part of the playerbase that plays EVE for it’s core gameplay.
I play EVE for spaceships and the player interactions, because EVE does that very well.
If I want to do quests in a fantasy setting, build an empire in an RTS setting, carefully craft a character build in a hack slash and loot setting or walk around in 3rd person in a space setting, I’ll play other games that specialise in those sort of things.
I mean, it would be great if EVE could have it all: a universe with space ship interaction, world building RTS and quests on the ground with first person shooter fights on these planets and on ships, and that the same character -your avatar- can walk around and really live in all those completely different gameplay genres combined in one gigantic game.
It would sure be nice.
But I’m afraid it’s also unrealistic and that it’s better for games to stay true to their core gameplay if they want to stand out and survive.
We came close.
Then it was all just cancelled.
Yep, CCP had vision, I’ll give them that. If it all worked out we may have had a really nice integrated combination of gameplay styles.
At the end of the day it was their decision to blind themselves and start selling the family silver.
It could have been great, but Hillmar just likes money too much I guess.
Sad really.
@Saranar_Ranaras Was captain lounge in the ships? That would be cool.
i have a novelty idea
no 3d walking character
only my clothes idea … AND a glorified customizable personal chat room
the captain quarters could be 2 d , no need to burn money
omg im so smart
So you’re setting up PI on planets and recovering PI materials without using a spaceship?
Project discovery is a literal joke
Market trading still requires spaceships, the materials aren’t magically appearing in your station
Research will still generally require spaceships in order to fetch/move blueprints once you’ve researched them
At what point does any WiS content require a spaceship other than moving to a different station?
Why would that have been the case? they wouldn’t have even run as the same application so you wouldn’t need an actual in-universe link between the applications
Well it wouldn’t have been, the original plan was mostly scrapped once they no doubt realised it wouldn’t actually add anything, without a compelling reason to use it people wouldn’t, and it was going to cost them a lot of developer resources to maintain, literally no reason to bother
It really wouldn’t have been, i mean its all well and good hoping it could have been awesome, but the actual reality is, it would have all just been side content to the actual main game and that would have rendered it mostly useless
Im wondering in what way WiS kicked your dog that you are so overwhelmingly negative without even considering any other view.
Eh, its no biggie. CCP didnt want to try, so they quit.
Thats old news.
Because he personally doesn’t care for it.
Ah so how I feel about Triglavians and EDENCOCK
