This does not change your ship from “aligning to a point”, to “approaching X” - AFAIK.
But yes, it is ANOTHER way to bump someone - without clicking the approach button.
That is why I proposed to require suspect flag (eg through a specific module) to bump someone.
What is so difficult for you to understand with the idea of “if you want to bump someone you need to go suspect” as a concept ? Then you don’t even need to understand the intent of the people, since that’s what you complain about.
Yes. E=mv² and when you hit something, you share that energy. The thing is, machs have good thrust while freighters don’t, so it’s not as much as speed that they take, it’s the time they need to correct their alignment.
Okay, so you are aligning towards a point in space, your safety is off, I scoot in front of you, you are approaching and if you have a prop mod on you go suspect if you bump me. Because you were approaching me…
In order to bump a target, two things must happen:
You have a suspect flag.
Your safety is set to yellow or red.
So anyone who wants to bump could be legally targeted before they even bump you.
Additionally, in order to accomplish the “you have a suspect flag”, Anderson is suggestion there be a mod that when used causes you to go suspect. This could be the only function of the mod or may be it could be a special MWD that causes suspect timer and has better bumping qualities (whatever those may be).
Why doesn’t someone get a gank fleet up and just warp in and kill the bumpers ok you go minus status and all that but its a counter double webb or even tripple web and scram the mach get your fleet to warp in then blapp it. Then it comes down to who wants to lose the most money surely?
The people being bumped could not have less interest in this even if you paid them to have less interest in it.
Yes, it is a viable option, but they’ll never do it. PL did it a bit during Burn Jita, but then again PL don’t worry too much about freighter ganking or bumping.
Totally. if two people are safety green they can’t bump each other
Additionally, if fitting a specific mode is too annoying, allow to become suspect (in HS) by 1-disabling safety(orange/red) and 2- hitting the “approach” order to someone you can’t bump (not in your fleet and not in your corp if corp has ff on). The “approach” button would be grayed out if your security is on, and yellow if using it would make you suspect.
That would allow you to become suspect on demand, eg hit the KaR 500 and when close enough hit “approach” to effectively get suspect and bump your target. Also, to avoid abuse, it could scram you to remove the mwd for 10s (using an AB could still help bump).
And now, while you bump the freigther for 2hours, people can come and simply scram +web you to help him go, or simply smash your mach.
I was not approaching you since I was aligning towards a point in space. Just. No. If you are aligning to a point in space your order is “align”, and not “approach”.
Because it’s much more difficult than killing a freighter.
I don’t understand the question. I don’t understand “long time cultural changes I foresee happening”
Also, your question is so precise it becomes closed, in which so you seem to expect a specific answer from me, which I consider to be dishonesty.
If you consider there is a cultural issue (whatever this means) with my idea, just expose your issue.
@Solstice_Projekt is asking how this will effect game play outside of the narrow focus you have been writing about. It is not “closed” it is wide open.
@Anderson_Geten
Basically what he said. I am not quite sure what you are having trouble with right now.
I was asking you for your thoughts regarding the long time effects your change would have on the games’ culture. It is important to consider as many potential outcomes as doable, otherwise changes could be picked simply by shooting darts at a dart board.
(I wanted to read through the original post to the end, but got daunted about that after I saw the length. o7 to you guys who did read it through before responding!)
I have successfully counter-bumped a Machariel in a Slasher. They said it could not be done. Maybe it wasn’t done, and we both triple-psyched ourselves out. Anyway, Slasher controlled the field in the end. \o/
