One of the critically missing feature is to display in each item details window where it can be acquired from.
This could be really simple and valuable feature to implement, and for new players so crucial.
I am not new to eve, but I am far from a veteran player. Anytime I see some new things I wonder how do I get those besides buying. I know I can ask chatgpt nowadays, but it would be nice to have it in game.
EVE is a 22 year old game. There are thousands of YouTube videos, online guides, and Wiki articles to find every item in the game that has ever existed. Takes all of 2 seconds…
A descripton like this would be impossible to implement and maintain in general. For one, many, many items are no longer obtainable in the current universe, but then they also are, e.g. from other players. Some items have a lot sources, for example salvage or meta modules. What would the details of, for example, the item Report R:081-9560 even look like? “Came from god knows where, exploration maybe”?
Even if you implemented a Wowhead-esque tool that automatically diffs your inventory and registers new items along with the exact position of your ship, you may be in a data or relic site, you may have looted another player’s wreck, you may have gotten an item from a contract or the market or a random can in space or a mission interactable or from an agent as a reward or an NPC wreck or an event track during two weeks in 2020 or from login rewards or the redeem queue or a Project Discovery box or a Deepflow Rift crate or someone traded it to you, you see where I’m going with this, your precise location in space isn’t very useful, not even the time.
I know this can be frustrating, but such is EVE, if you asked me where I got the shirt I’m wearing right now, I wouldn’t be able to tell you either. Or maybe I farmed it in Pochven and it’s none of your business what happens there.
