(Using random numbers just to make the point)

Mining could be given a mini-game option like Hacking has. Or if you feel like AFK mining with 100 alts then you could do this too.

AFK mining would have a penalty to mining yield, say 75% of max possible yield. (drones would fall under this category too)
Active mining would have you constantly keeping an eye on the mini-game to click on the correct ‘path’ to keep your yield at or near 100%.

With that, Asteroids would not be limited to one type of ore only, they would have a variety of Ore which you could choose to extract as you follow a vein thru the mini game. The lower the security of space in which the Asteroid is, the higher the chance that it would have High-End-Ore (in very low quantities compared to where the true Highe-End-Ore currently resides)

AFK mining would have a much lower chance to get Higher end ore during its mining (if at all).

Failing to follow thru a mini-game would forfeit any additional ore gained for that cycle and default to AFK mining collection for that Cycle.

Now consider playing the hacking game constantly for 4 hours.
This is why this is a terrible idea.

Nice strawman that has nothing to do with my point.
This idea has been repeatedly brought up, and ignores the issue that the hacking game works because it is the culmination of the entire exploration process. You are not sitting there in one spot playing it again and again and again and again and again…

I remember posting an idea long ago that took years to implement. This idea being suggested and nothing being done about it within hrs of posting does not mean its being ignored. Just because you disagree or dislike it does not mean the rest of eve does. Keep in mind that good or bad, this is the place for ideas whether you like them or not.

Sure, it is a place for ideas.
And yet again you have done nothing to address the huge flaw in this idea. Just like no-one else ever could address that flaw any previous time it was brought up.
And this makes it a bad idea.
