Add an Alarm countdown to Abyss

Instead of holding your hand while playing with this information by turning it in some kind of gameshow-like countdown, how bad would it be if the game gave simply no timing information at all?

Just a description of being ‘stable for a limited time’ in the filament should be enough.

Players figure out it’s 20 minutes. Players keep track of their own time.

I think that would fit EVE far more than some UI countdown. Give some more responsibility to the players, don’t show them when and which buttons they need to click now.

Or if a countdown should be shown the last minute I much prefer a visual destabilization effect over a UI timer.

Let the universe feel like it is about to collapse, not the UI.

Yeah, let your kids run in the streets with their bikes at night and let them

run official tournaments for a week, they have to throw an soft paint ball at each house,

and have a candle on their caps that must not go out.

See how many comes back home.

I loved the 80s, but Drones… they went wild in this period…

Nevermind we seriously have aging deficiencies so if my head can get a great help

… but…

what I’m even taking about…

Gerard sometime I completely don’t get how you can have 360 degrees Positive POV on just about everything and then flip the board and do a 1080…

You’re describing a Stephen King Horror movie there, come back to our twisted reality

made of kitchen-clockwork made in every possible shape or form, with laser painted numbers, your dog voice etc… don’t let you be insatiable just because the geo stopped spinning…

You seem to want to make a WH-like Abyss mission, where maybe even Marauders could get in… or Ogysseus, Stratos… BIG GUNS… but also other tasks…

and you could get a way out by defeating a Boss, like in normal Abyss, or stay there for weeks untill someone finds you, and give you the coordinates to a warehouse with a filament to get out…

I can’t beta test anything, but new content is always welcome.

I can see how you think that, but think of myself as consistent with my opinion and posts.

I personally like helping players, but I also like playing a game that does not hold my hand.

I do not like a game where the UI breaks the fourth wall and starts talking to me like I am playing some sort of game, such as by telling me to do ‘daily tasks’ or by telling me whenever the site I am in will explode.

Instead I wish for the game universe to feel alive, ruthless and dangerous. And I wish to feel this danger, so if an abyss countdown is to be implemented I think it should not be a number counting down on my screen with an alarm, but should be visual effects in the abyssal pocket that make it appear like space is about to crash down.

In other words, make it feel like I’m flying in a dangerous universe, not that I am playing some kind of cheap game.

And I showed appreciation to your vision.

I’m not contrary to a proposal, IF it’s an added value to the game

and do not compromise already near “borderline” difficulty,

for at least the bottom of the pyramid..

You have a natural biological clock.

:timer_clock:

Just use that!

I’d prefer it if there was no timer at all, not even the visual one. And the collapse could be random too – not exactly 20 minutes like it is now, but about 20 minutes. Sometimes it will collapse at 19 min mark, sometimes at 22 min mark. Maybe on very rare occasions even at 25 min.

Would feel a lot more immersive and realistic than the exact 20 min like it is now every single time.

I like both. I find an increasingly tense warning sound (see: Star Trek “Red Alert” or the linked Alien-Nostromo video) really immersive. It definitely adds atmosphere to the gameplay.

See: https://youtu.be/9Z8mgkqjq90?t=39 (just the sound- and light-environment of the scene)

But I absolutely agree that the environment could also reflect the increasing danger. They definitely could add some space-lightning, energy bursts, flares or whatever that are happening in the background and come close and close and more intense the less time is remaining. I’d absolutely love that. Some of the huge background Asteroids could even shatter and drift apart, showing red glowing veins inside etc. etc… that would be a sight.

Same. What I visualize in my head is sort of like an electrical sound/hum getting more and more intense the closer you get to the collapse of the pocket.

I like the ideas of lightning and flares, etc becoming intenser as well, like you said. The pocket becomes increasingly unstable as time passes, the environment should reflect that.

Yeah, Abyssals have always been my most enjoyed EVE PvE content, especially in non-Meta fittings to see how far it can be pushed. Adrenaline rush is real if you escape with 2 seconds on the clock in an 11B ISK ship. Now imagine that with cinema-like environmental effects. EVE could advertise just with that alone.
And god knows some T6 pockets are everything but easy, even in totally overblinged fits. You still totally need to know what you are doing and you better face no disconnect while inside.
