Allow all character creation options regardless of gender

It actually does though. The unwrapped texture of a male character model’s face is vastly different from a female character model. The polygons themselves are totally different. My point is that you can’t simply take a female lipstick texture and slap it on a male face texture and expect it to fit as is. It simply wont, the polygon mapping is too different. A completely new detail texture needs to be created based on the male face model topology. The UV coordinates just won’t match as is like you are describing.

Hairstyle changes, are a different circumstance entirely. And it’s not so much the ‘skull shape’ that prevents this.

A hair object applied is applied to a character model, BUT, the polygon ‘reshaping’ comes in two completely separate flavors.

Character models in games basically have what are called blendshapes, or “morphs”. Essentially the sliders that change all the structure features of a character model. Tall, thin, Thicc, extra thicc, etc etc etc. Each one of these individual changes you make on a slider when you create a character are basically modifying the weight value of a specific blendshape and it’s application to the skinned mesh renderer on a character.

For example. If you’re making a female character, and want big gazongas. A blendshape morph is basically a “mesh modifier” where a float value of 0.0 gives you itty bitty’s, and a 1.0 gives you, well… Max size. This morph, plus every other morph that makes up the character body structure exists in two forms. Both on the character model itself, and also baked into every piece of clothing (and even hair) so that a piece of clothing will look correct regardless of the slider settings. Even a hairstyle will be affected by these partial body morphs or full body morphs. As would lipstick.

Put it this way. If CCP wanted to include a single body morph that let players have a Total Recall triple set of sweater puppies, they would LITERALLY have to re-export -EVERY-SINGLE-CLOTHING-ITEM- for a female character, so that the clothing model has the same TotalRecall Morph as the character model does. The Morph is basically a set of instructions that says -how- to deform a mesh based on the weight value (the value you set on a char creator slider). THE EXACT SAME CONCEPT goes for literally any other physical feature you’d want to alter on a character.

Hair is an absolute -nightmare- when it comes to 3d modeling, both in making it look good -and- keeping it from burning your GPU at the same time. A lot of times hair objects have a bone rig associated with them to give them a “flowy” look, or so it doesn’t just sit flat.

Hair
IS
A
NIGHTMARE

For 3D modelers. Like. You have -no- idea how bad it can be.

I’m not putting words in your mouth, I’m explaining in high level technical detail why your assumptions are technologically false.

So your definition of being more powerful in an argument is to make fun of them to someone else, while refusing to include them in a conversation. Are you in Middle School? Like… That is stupid mean girl shite…

Quite frankly you aren’t doing anything more than making assumptions an accusations about “Crappy Conservative” this or “Oh I’m making fun of this person and not including them”

If you don’t want to have a debate on a topic, then don’t bring it up. And if YOU DO actually want to have a debate, then take your “crappy conservative” labeling devices and leave them where they belong, In a dumpster.

You want to talk. Then talk. You want to ignore the opinions of others because, then go ignore them somewhere else.

Do you really want to keep baiting this bs harder? You are literally instigating someone to say something and framing yourself with an overused victim card. “act like never heard a queer talk” Are you really that daft? No, it’s the exact opposite. People are tired of hearing about the politics being brought into video games.

Do not act like you didn’t start this discussion with thinly veiled contempt for political factions. Nobody gives a ■■■■ what “affiliation” you belong to because it’s not relevant. If you want to talk politics, then I suggest you go to the IGS forums and complain about how the President Mushroom Stamp is corrupt or something. Those are LITERALLY the only politics that belong in this game. PERIOD.

At this point …

You are literally attempting to -frame- the discussion in a light that paints you as a victim of a big bad meanie conservative. You’re so far from the mark it’s not even registering.

Your bait is horrible, your argument is flawed.

Also… A Bread Container is something that contains bread.
But I think you and I both already know that… Don’t you?

Bread Container… Wonder where I’ve heard that before…

My background is in business in RL. That is as much as I will state. I have read about the many businesses fails when they don’t consider culture/customer base in their decisions. (Found everywhere on google) I always look at every angle and even try to play devil’s advocate when I can. I will admit when I make bad points and I will call out the 100% false trash people post. (At least here behind my persona) I talked about the political/cultural considerations corporations like CCP have to think about diving into this very divisive topic.

My point with this quote is that CCP is crafting a specific world/story here. They have actually said updates are going to be more story driven. Additions into the game will go through lore considerations etc. Now that I type this it is kind of cowardly of me to hide behind a lore shield  So, I will concede this point.

People at Jita live in horrid conditions. Transgenderism is probably the last thing they are thinking about. (Random lore thought I had). Go read the EVE lore/chronicles on their website. It really paints a grim picture for the average person.

This is pretty much I fall on this. All the sliders and cyber/syfy themed stuff I support. We all agree we want more stuff to wear, more sliders, more buttons, more clothes.

“When a business takes a side in a political debate, they will alienate 50% of the customer base 100% of the time.” - Rough Kevin O’Leary quote I saw.

I like to be a unifier when diving out of topics. I have said pretty much as much as can be said within the game terms.

CCP is the final decision maker in their artwork. Heck we can’t even choose our own font. In 2020? Or 2022? they went ham on the chat box. Four months they kept changing font/text size. :joy:
If and when CCP does get to the character customization as it could use a refresh. I hope they do take a look at some of the points OP makes and the discussion here. I will bet money we all here support more character options and more ways to dress up our little avatars in this pixel world. The art team has a list 10 miles long on graphics changes they need to do.

Debate skills is something that truly takes years of practice. I enjoy a debate with someone who can be reasoned with. By no means I am an expert debater. Thanks @Bread_Container Most people post trash, reply to the first 5 posts and vanish. I am glad you stuck around. I hope you get your character customization suggestions at least considered.

Believe it or not I agree. everybody likes customization options.

But I have a firm grasp on the limitations.

Thank you for a very comprehensible explanation of how character meshes work. Having more customisation options would be nice but CCP has to consider ROI and developer resources.

I love how threads on this topic always, inevitably devolve into this nonsense.

What nonsense?

Description of the technological limitations?

Or the reality that CCP has to consider the cost?

Both requests Second’d

I love how people drop in a thread. Leave a smart comment with no citation and never return.

Citation Needed? Please tell us about your perspective on this topic. As it has been pretty much talked to death.

Do you have something to contribute? I think @Srajin was pretty good describing the technicals behind the proposal and why CCP hasn’t touched the character creator in forever. And I described the corporate/social considerations CCP needs to examine.

@Wadiest_Yong said it best when neutrality is good for business and offered up a proposal that all avatars should be less human.

I have a feeling you did not read this thread fully.

Sometimes random strangers talking in a forum can lead to happy conclusions…

This isn’t the first time I’ve had this conversation with people.

I had to have this same discussion with several RP community members regarding “Cat Ears” on their ships… and why it’s -also- not something that “ShOuLD Be SuPeR EaSyYYYYyyYyYyYy”
