Can unallocated skillpoints be used to take an alpha clone over the 5 million cap or can that only be done with skill injectors?
Unallocated counts in your 5 mil sp. So if you have 3 mil allocated and 2 mil Unallocated, that counts towards your 5 mil limit. After that youll need injectors

As Geo said, unallocated SP counts towards your 5M.
However, there’s a nice trick that if you leave the SP in your redeem queue it does not count towards a SP cap of any character as it hasn’t been assigned to a character yet. This means you can leave the 1 million SP of the referral bonus until you have trained to 5M SP on an Alpha character and then redeem it to get to 6M SP.
This is also possible for any other redeemable SP you get, but be careful that you don’t let it sit in your redeem too long if it has an expiry date!

Yes, they also work beyond the 5m SP threshold.
