Alt or MCT for Industry?

Hey. Completely new player thats interested in Industry. I am currently on my main account enjoying myself in a WH corp and skilling for pvp and such. I’m interested in learning Industry so I’m wondering if its better to make a new account for it or to use MCT on my main?

I could Omega both accounts though I realize the ROI might not be ideal, my patience is shitty and i wanna start and learn. Or is MCT better for this? I’ll be going straight to T2 stuff to learn the market and how everything works. I have a few billion ISK to invest.

A second Omega account makes sense if you need to login both your main and alt at the same time (i.e., multibox), or if your alt will have an ongoing indefinite need to train additional skills. On a perpetual basis, a second Omega account is generally cheaper than one Omega+MCT (especially if you buy discounted multi-month subscriptions).

EDIT to add: at rack rate (non-discounted) MCT is 5-25% cheaper than Omega, depending on term (with less relative discount the longer the term). That said, never pay rack rate. Take advantage of sales offers.

One account plus MCT makes sense if you don’t need to multibox, and if your alt has a finite skill plan that will finish within a specified period of time. Generally, some period less than 12 months.

In either case, you can transfer characters between accounts. So whichever option you choose, if your needs change, you aren’t stuck. Also, work out your alt’s skill plan, determine the time to train, and then look at available sales on Omega and MCT. When you run the numbers it may be cheaper (for example) to sub Omega on a second account for 12 months and then pay the transfer fee later rather than buy 12 months MCT on your main account. It just depends on current sale prices.

Thanks!

No problem. One thing I didn’t mention, but you may not know as a new player: If you train Omega skills on your character, you can only use those skills while you’re subbed to Omega. If your account goes Alpha, you lose access to those skills.

Keep that in mind if you opt for the second Omega account. You will be paying for it in perpetuity to fully use the character, so factor that into your decision.

Yep, Hatch Nasty explained it well.

For something like industry you don’t need both characters to be logged in at the same time, so it can easily be done on a second character on the first account.

Eventually when your alt has the skills you need you only pay one Omega subscription if both characters are on the same account or two subscriptions to keep both active if it’s on a second account. In the long run MCT is cheaper in this case.

I’ve seen notes on players mentioning a transfer. IDK if that means the person bought that character or if was moved from a same-account alt to it’s own omega account.

I was just thinking now about the free 1m SP I’d be missing out on.. Isn’t that quite a boost?

That’s a nice short-term boost, but little compared to the extra costs of keeping up two Omega accounts where one would do.

Either, you can buy accounts but in this context I assume it’s about players who first have a second account and once the character is trained but you don’t want to multibox with it you can pay the transfer fee to combine it into one account to reduce the subscription cost.

Considering these keystones, I’d say you should get yourself two accounts with two main chars and two Industry alts. In a wormhole a scout is very helpful, and two PI chars can do a lot. Perhaps the scout can do some industry instead, so you only need one MCT.
