AMIOMIA for CSM 21 - EVE Is Its People

I don’t have all the answers. And that is the point!

EVE is full of people with incredibly deep knowledge and strong opinions about the parts of the game they care about. That passion and expertise is important, but I think there is also value in having someone at the table who isn’t coming in with a list of changes they already want to see.

That’s where I see my role. I want to be the calm head in the middle who listens to those different perspectives, asks questions and tries to understand the problem before deciding what the answer should be.

Hi! I’m Amiomia.

I started playing EVE in July 2023 when I decided to try it live on Twitch, genuinely thinking what’s the worst that can happen? Two months later I was at FanFest. The rest is history.

Since then, I have streamed EVE and it’s events (you might know me as the girl streaming FanFest), become an EVE Partner, built communities, organised events and spent a ridiculous amount of time talking to the people who inhabit New Eden.

Somewhere along the way, I realized that the thing I care about most in EVE isn’t actually the spaceships. It’s the people flying them.

I’ve always tried to make EVE and its community more accessible, whether through streaming events, connecting people with information or helping someone find their place in this enormous and sometimes overwhelming universe. One of the things I’m most proud of was organising a raffle and fully paying for three people to attend FanFest because I wanted everyone to have the chance to experience it, regardless of their financial situation.

The new player matters. The 15+ year veteran matters. The FC trying to keep a community together matters. The industrialist whose gameplay I barely understand matters.

Behind all those opinions, complaints, suggestions and spreadsheets are people who care deeply about EVE.

**Those are the people I want to represent.

My expertise is people**

I’m not running as an expert on a particular mechanic or area of space. My strengths are communication, recruitment, diplomacy and community building.

There are people who know wormholes, nullsec, industry, PvP, markets and ship mechanics at a level I probably never will. Those are exactly the people I want to hear from. I don’t think being a good CSM member means already having an answer to every problem. It means listening, asking the right questions, finding the people who understand the issue and making sure their perspective reaches FC.

At the same time, after three years I still manage to get lost in EVE and discover things everyone else apparently knew years ago. I think there is value in that too. I understand the community and its culture, but I still have fresh enough eyes to notice things that might be confusing or frustrating for a new player. And keeping new players in EVE is something that ultimately matters to all of us.

But I’m not running only for new players. If you’ve played EVE for 15 years and know your corner of New Eden inside out, you know its problems better than I do. Whether you live in wormholes, run an industrial empire, FC fleets, live in lowsec or manage logistics in nullsec, I want to hear what matters to you and make sure those perspectives are part of the conversation.

My fresh perspective helps me ask questions. Your experience helps me ask the right ones.

Why now

Ithink I’m currently in a very unusual middle ground. When I started playing EVE, I was simply too new to run for CSM. Over the last three years I’ve learned a lot about the players, communities and culture surrounding EVE, while somehow remaining confused enough by the game to still look at it with relatively fresh eyes.

At the same time, I’m not deeply tied to a major bloc or one specific part of New Eden. I don’t approach an issue by first thinking about how it affects my alliance or my preferred way of playing. I want to understand who it affects, why it matters to them and whether the people who actually experience that part of EVE have been heard.

It doesn’t matter to me whether the issue is in wormholes, nullsec, highsec, markets, ship balance, logistics or an area of the game I’ve never touched. I care about the people it affects and about making sure the players who understand that issue have a way to bring their knowledge and experience to the CSM.

Right now I feel like I’m in a unique position. I understand the community and the people of EVE, but I haven’t accumulated years of political baggage or strong predetermined positions about how every part of the game should work. I can come into a discussion ready to listen first, understand the different perspectives and then help make sure the right voices are part of the conversation.

That balance might not last forever, and that’s exactly why I think now is the right time for me to run.

That’s why now.

What can you expect from me?

You can expect me to be accessible and willing to listen. I won’t pretend to understand something when I don’t. I’ll ask questions, find the people who know the subject and make sure I understand the issue before forming an opinion.

I also want to hear from people beyond the biggest alliances and loudest voices. You know your part of EVE better than I do, and I see my role as making sure that knowledge and experience reaches the table.

I care about the people playing this game, regardless of where or how they play. That’s who I want to represent.

Hello @Amiomia, what about this?

  • The connection between EVE Online and EVE Vanguard

Do you have any expectations what that could be, how it could work? I am aware there is nothing tangible yet, but it’s rather inevitable if I red FC correctly.
