Ammunition size too large and inconsistent

I want to incentivize long exploration trips, and I feel we are held back by the small amount of ammo we can carry in cruiser size hulls when it comes to combat exploration.

This mainly applies to missiles, hybrid weapons and projectile weapons.

If I go combat exploring on long trips with a versatile ship like a T3 Cruiser (which is my main focus here but the concept applies to all ships) my most viable options are the Legion with lasers since crystals take immensely less space per damage dealt, or a Proteus with drones. The other configs with missiles, hybrids or projectile weapons are not sustainable.

I don’t think laser crystals should take more space - I think ammo in general should take less space.

This also very much applies to items such as scripts. How does one script take up 1m3?

Lore or tech-wise it would make sense that ships should be able to carry large amounts of ammunition that does not necessarily compete for cargo space with other transported goods.

Balance-wise I couldn’t give less of a ■■■■.
Halve the ammo size for Small and Medium size ammo or its equivalent, and reduce Large by 25% or something like that. I don’t care about XL.

just fit 2-3 cargohold expander and you dont have any problem with your cargohold

Seems like you’ve found the solution to your problem: lasers and drones are the way to go if you wish to go on long combat trips.

I don’t think ammo needs to be smaller necessarily, but I’ve long thought combat ships should have a dedicated ammo/missile bay.

Lasers needing significant less cargo space, that is then freed up for capboosters, is a crucial part of ship balance among the different weapon systems. And one should also not forget that most Missile Spammers for example have even more base cargo space than the Amarr Laser Boats.
