The same way there is a method to turn low sec into null sec, there needs to be a way to actually counter instant docks when you reach local in Null. Since by the time you hit local the mining fleets are aligned and back at their POS.
Unless their AFK, or you can catch them at a gate, which will be scouted ahead anyways, this area of space is Sesame Street with little to no counter play with how heavily it favors the defenders.
You can sit there for 8 hours, they will log off or wait you out, etc etc.
There should be a structure, small, medium or large that you can place into a section in null sec that disrupts communication and removes local chat. A small one disrupts the system or two, and the largest ones remove local chat 5 systems across.
Or what if there was a ship variant that could disable local chat and jam a system.
So the sov holders would have this ship undocked all the time to see YOU come into the vicinity, but YOU cannot see what is going on in the systems of interest. Sounds great.
Considering how there is still boatloads of stuff dying in null sec every single day, you are doing something seriously wrong.
I am with Dyver Phycad in this one. You are correct to an extent that nulsec favors the defender. its called homefield advantage for a reason and this translates not just to nulsec or eve online, but any game sport, or even real life war.
That all said i absolutely dislike the idea of disabling local chat in any ‘real space’ system, even in nulsec. There are PLENTY of examples where the invader has won against the defender in nulsec and there are so many ships being blown up all the time in nulsec. There are staging structures that apply stealth fields so they don’t show up on d scan and are relatively hard to track down with probes (Though im no expert in this field). Theres Cyno jammers to lock down systems already. Theres cov op cynos that need to be scanned down and they only last a minute before poofing up in smoke with the capability of dropping in dozens to hundreds of ships all with stealth ability just to lock down systems.
If you are looking to disrupt systems, there already are systems in place for that.
* Onto the note of Miners already aligned. Truthfully there are miners even in hisec who have to play like this anyways and they get absolutely good practice in it. For Nulsec mining, seconds are the difference between life and death, and they are normally the peak of capsuleer piloting. Most of them know what to expect if they dawdle. Yes they will have scouts, yes they will have a quick key to warp off or cyno conduit jump out of system at the barest wiff of hostility (Which is normally a neut of any kind). Nulsec is where Eve Online normally bares the rawest form of the game and i would love nothing more than to keep this as is. Turning Nul into like pochvin would be an absolute nightmare not to mention annoying. (No bash on Pochvin). It makes sense for Pochvin, not for real space.
Seeing local chat jammed is just as much a sign to dock up as seeing hostiles in local chat is.
Because of that I do not see how this idea is going to help the game.
I do however agree that local chat as intel tool is too powerful and infallible (except when FCCP messes up the server).
In the past I’ve had a different idea with a similar purpose of making local chat less reliable as intel tool: to make a new ship class or upgrade an existing ship class with the role bonus of being invisible to local chat.
Similar to how combat recons have the bonus of
Role Bonus:
• Cannot be detected by directional scanners
I think it would be nice for the game if some weak but fast frigates like the T2 EWAR frigates had a bonus of:
Role Bonus:
• Cannot be detected by local chat
This change would also allow players to scout ahead unnoticed by the locals, and possibly even tackle a ship that isn’t paying attention to anything but local chat.
But unlike your suggestion it doesn’t make people dock up anyway when their local chat is jammed, and neither do a few ‘invisible’ frigates allow locals as much of a home advantage as a local-chat jammer would.
No, I intentionally added it to a hull that isn’t already able to fly cloaked or be unnoticed by dscan.
I would like local chat to have a counter, not to add a ship that cannot be noticed at all.
Stacking such roles would be too powerful I think, but having a single ‘invisible to local’ role on a frigate hull without killing potential sounds good to me. People would still be able to watch dscan or check probes and gates if they know some enemies often use these ships to scout.
On the contrary, it would change that people would watch dscan in addition to local.
And people who don’t do that all the time, which is going to be many of them if the frigate itself isn’t that much of a threat, might not notice this new frigate.
Bots no longer can use screen recognition to watch local 24/7 and reliably warp off when hostiles appear, but would in addition have to repeatedly use dscan to stay safe, which means repeated keypresses for long periods of time which are much more easily noticed as bot behaviour.
Too much to be fair. I wouldn’t even want on a cloak able hull. Just something small and nimble with a probe launcher to find a new way out. But no one has to worry about that, as null would just quit again anyway.
I do like the idea a bit for a ‘hidden from local chat’ ship that is also safe from D Scan. That would be sorta fun actually. that said, it CANNOT be BLOP capable or else that would be exceptionally overpowered. The Curse, Huginn, Lachesis, and Rook are safe from D Scan but they cant activate Cynos. I think if a similar ship is going to be pitched or added that cannot be seen on Local Chat, they should have the same stipulation.
We definitely agree on no-Covops. What about an existing line of ships? Command ships? Marauders? Maybe some of the T1 battleships that don’t get utilized as much? ie: Rokh, Maelstrom, etc?
Yea, you could do that by sending fast unseen scouts ahead through their space.
A slow solo battleship would be seen and caught fairly easily even if local-immune, and is too slow to scout for one of the hostile fleets that roam here.
Why not fly a blops battleship?
With covert jump drive, super fast cloak movement and instant locking after decloak they’re even more flexible than if these were covert ships.
