Weren’t you in Pizza, when they nerfed their shenanigans in null?
I used to play another MMO over a decade ago called Tibia. It was one of the first MMORPGs on the net. And it was ultra-hardcore. IF you died, you lost XP + half of your inventory.
And it was FUN. Death truly meant something.
Nowadays, the XP loss is pretty much non-existent, and the game is much, much more accessible.
And I won’t bother coming back, because the experience in Tibia is going to be the same experience in every other MMO that seeks to coddle and protect its players.
Thankfully Eve has retained some of its “hardcore” aspects, although it has cracked down on others (e.g. Erotica1-style scams). It needs to retain its edge if it wants to stand out from the crowd.
you could lock people in your house by putting a chair over the door
Somebody had fun making all those game mechanics.
I agree with Dracvlad! Gankers ruin game!
#Draclivesmatter
It’s the bumping Galaxy, they all quit because of the bumping. It makes the game boring or something. He had to go PvE in nullsec because of it, could not handle it…

I remember whenever someone lured a dragon into a city, everyone would block the depots so no-one could reach safety. Good times.
i only tried it once that was pretty much the only detail i remembered lol
TL;DR
But most of what i skimmed is laughably wrong.
!3 year vet, so here we go.

Changes have made using alts at times no longer needed. Jump Fatigue removed a lot of cyno alts, PoS changes eliminated science and in some case, pos alts. Changes to sov pissed a few off, jump fatigue pissed a few off. Changes to ISOBoxer caused a lot of people to shead alts. A huge chunk of the ‘free fall’ of users in sheading of uneeded alts. Once Gates come, you will see another sheading of unneeded cyno alts.

Age. EVE’s player base when it came out skewed a bit older. As most mmo’s had the 16-25 year old market down pat, eve’s player base tended to be 25-45 and then retement age. Typically people either not married, no kids, or situated in life. I started eve at 23, i’m currently 36, married, with a kid and one of the way. I’m lucky to squeeze in 1 full hour of actual play time a day, when i used to do well over 10 hours a day.

Rebuild/Repare phase. EVE is currently in a rebuild and repair phase. Has been since 2011 after Incarnia. Part of the issue with this is things tend to slow down as they make changes and upgrades to old code. This means player get bored. One of the things WoW has going for it, is a new feature in an expansion pulls players bakc in, then over time the numbers shrink. While eve ha snot had anything really new for a while. Sov chnages was just a mechanic change, structres are just replacing pos’. Etc. Te rebuild phase is hopefully winding down after pos’ are removed, but we will see.

Some features piss people off, or they dont like the directions, or whatever. These again, are the older player base feeling as if the game they loved is changing in ways they dislike. Granted some of these complaints are correct, but most are short sighted.

No, citadel assets safety is not driving people away, as you always had a form of asset safety in outpost.

Will thing improve? Personally, i think they already have, pos’ needed to die. I think something is coming, and jump fatigue and fozzine sov were band-aids to push through to whats next. I just think it has taken a ■■■■ ton longer then ccp first thought it would to get to the next big thing.
note too lazy to fix spelling, deal with it
Rorquals buffs just to nerf them later, Carrier buffs only to nerf them later, SP farms for said capitals and cash in on PLEX for extractors?
Yes and no. Gates are coming, and i think Gates will completely change how people get around in eve. In theory, you might be able to deploy them quickly, and thus move all over without the need for a cyno alt or Jump fatigue.
Or there is another sov system int he works, that comes with new structures, that cna help reduce the issues we had in dominion and exudus sov. But who knows.
Gesus on a motorcycle Krist, gates are coming for the n-th year already and they are like unicorns at this moment for me.
As i said, i think what ccp wanted to do is taking longer then they planned. We should be done with this pos dying stuff, but it keep getting pushed back. We will see what happens.
Well, the Rubicon plan was to take 3 years to release player owned gates AND new space. So far we don’t even have an official ETA but estimates are for somewhen in 2019 at earliest. And this is assuming that nothing bad happens to EVE development, which is not unlikely.
My intuition tells me that they’ve tried to sell CCP and haven’t found a suitable bidder…
No, the roumer of CCP selling seemed to be more of one of the venture capitalist that owns ccp dumping its shares. Which is normal. CCP is owned by like 4 companies.
Player made gates would be subject to maximum ranges I expect. Gates are one of the golden calves of EVE and I think maybe the system is too inflexible to produce another/better system.
E:D is a really pretty space flight sim. A million miles wide and an inch deep in terms of game play.
That’s a tactic. They feed the egos with OP stuff, then nerf it again. There is an infinite amount of egos willing 5o fall for this and often enough many fall for it several times.
It’s how CCP usually operates, but on bigger timescales compared to these two ships. it’s how the FOTM works, which only exists so the ego people have a new toy they can switch to.
When they first hyped the player constructed gates they talked about new space with new rules and gameplay.
Now I think gates if they ever come will simply be a replacement for jump bridges, since they are a POS module and they are on the way out.
As i said, i think when they announced new space vis the vision of 2014, they believed that pos would of been dead and gone by now. Citadels were suppose to come out about 6 months before they did, EC’s were pushed back, Refineries as well. From what i cna tell, they are about 1-2 years behind there original schedule. I’m ok with that, as long as they get it done correctly.
I think we will see medium and large gates (cyno and jump bridge replacement) at first. Then laster on once they get a few more tools out, the XL gates will come, which will lead to the next Jesus feature, which should bring in a boat load of old players for a time who want to check it out (kind alike what happens to WoW when a new expansion is released) . Of course i’m not a dev, csm member or ccp employee, so what the heck do i know. I’m just fairly positive that when Seagull said they are ready to take risk again in 2014, that they have something big up there sleave, but the stuff building up to it, took way longer then they originally thought. This would also account for a lot of the tight lips about whats coming after the pos replacement. We will see, my guess is we will hear rumblings of something new after gates, so i expect a good chunk of the rebuild phase to start to wind down after that, so 2018 it looks like.
