It really is not called “the bullying cycle”.
It’s called competition, sexual selection and evolution. It’s called the human condition.
There is no perfect kumbayah state of human existence where everyone is blissed out and everything is perfect. There never was a group of pure and perfectly wise folks who were corrupted by perfectly evil folks.
You were not born in a state of divine grace and then corrupted by the devil. You were born into a species which selects it’s future genetic makeup through competition and sexual selection. We are not fungi, nor rocks. We are not fragments of Angels sent to suffer in the material pool, until enlightenment is bestowed us by a wonderful priest of the one true church.
Eve Online is a social environment where folks compete with imaginary space ships in order to display their intelligence, dedication and competence within a very complex set of rules. Everyone who comes here wants the same thing: to not suck, perhaps to win, in front of peers.
Critically, you do not have to log on. You do not have to compete. There are no conscripts playing this game. It is a voluntary competition.
“bullying” is where a person cannot escape persecution, and when they suffer real life harm.
A person who cries and complains of psychological harm when they lose a fight they volunteered for is not the victim of “bullying”. They are intellectually dishonest and salty. End of.
Now, Eve does have a problem with “mobbing”, which is when a large group of small ballers gang up on an individual in order to imagine that they are somehow competent as a result. This is not really a problem, because the individual who is ganked in this way by smallballers knows that their warrior spirit frightened the blob, and that they are superior to the members of the blob. Dying to a blob is evidence of superiority, not inferiority. This is why killboard stats are ridiculous.
The only real problem with mobbing and blobbing is that it makes the game frustratingly boring, and it is kind of degenerate for CCP to cater to these shrieking gangs of half men. There is no honour or class to it. Looking at you, ECM.
Now the leaders of corps and alliances will argue that the leadership of blobs is an exercise in competitive 1v1 pvp, between the leaders, and I can see that point of view. All I can say, however, is that I doubt Eve has any kind of future if it is a game made for 1 out of every 10’000 players.
But please, stop with the lecturing about “bullying”.
We are all crusaders here. Ain’t nobody a conscript being fed into a rich man’s cannon, except maybe the goons.
All you have to lose are you pixels and your isk, and your dignity if you cry because of those losses.
It doesn’t matter if you lose your fights. If you keep fighting, you win self respect.
