I can hit close and go about my day, just weird since I haven’t had any windows updates since 4/15 and my launcher seemed to flicker a bunch of tiny updates this morning instead of the usual one long stream of the cyan bar filling up for the patch

No, because I have Game Bar and all the other Xbox crap on my pc disabled, as it should be.
I thought I’d disabled mine and removed the damned thing with
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
But it was back! dangit!! fricking M$ like a dang bad terminator redux movie with it’s cheezy I’ll be back (just kidding I love Arnold) LOL
I also have xbox services disabled via the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\xbgm and set the Start DWORD to 4
