I started a raffle in my alliance. Players send me ISK as a buy-in, and they get an entry into the drawing. I put their name on a list as many times as they bought entries for, then use Excel’s RAND functions to randomly select a winner. The winner gets free reprocessing from me for a year.
Someone messaged me and told me it was against the EULA because:
“You may not use, transfer or assign any game assets for games of chance operated by third parties”
As far as I can tell, I’m not violating the EULA, but what do you all think?
CCP wants you to use the Hypernet system. But from my personal point of view, I don’t represent CCP, it sounds no different from people who offer protection for ISK. You can get scammed for ISK and CCP won’t do anything about it. Other user created content goes on without the ban hammer of the EULA. I don’t see it having teeth when there are so many violations being ignored and unchecked.
They claim Ponzi scam is not an offensive scam, yet the scammer claims is; If you give them ISK they can double your ISK over night. Isn’t that akin to buying lottery ticket and promising you can win more ISK?
I am not sure about that fine print there. What 3rd party? This might be reference to people who buy and sell accounts. But I imagine you will get a lot more advice now from many other players tell you all about the company and policy. I doubt they work for CCP either.
If you want to run this 100% legit, you should hire a contract attorney and subpoena CCP and get it in writing.
I’ve put in a ticket to get an “official ruling” from someone who actually works for CCP, but I thought maybe there would be a player who had a similar situation and could tell me about their experience.
As far as the “third party” thing goes, I know there was a time when online casinos allowed you to bet with ISK. It wasn’t a widespread thing, but it was possible to gamble with ISK. It’s now against the EULA to do that.
The first reply you get will indeed be from someone on the CCP payroll. But this employee does the least amount of work he can get away with. In all likelihood, he didn’t even read your ticket. Just copied the reply for the category you posted in and pasted it as your reply.
So ignore it and politely request an escalation. If the character who answers the escalation doesn’t have the Senior GM title, request again with the qualification that you want to hear from a Senior GM.
Eventually you’ll get a reply from someone who has a clue.
Its player driven content. Have fun and continue being an asset to your group.
It should be celebrated on the launcher and bragged about by CCP if you stole all the ISK also. They actually used to be proud of the shenanigans. Ive stolen about 200b… super happy and glad to be surrounded by shady mofos. This is what makes EvE a great game. The good… and especially the bad.
I don’t think you are violating it. It’s a simple raffle for free reprocessing as a reward for winning and doesn’t involve out-of-game profits so I think you should be ok.
