So say I’m at Jita, and I kick out my 5 Sentry drones, set them in attack mode, and some assh__ er I mean “players” start ganking people.
Can my drones hit someone by accident and turn me criminal?

Not that I know of since you would have to target the assh__ er I mean “player” before your drones could engage.
But don’t take my word for it, I’m simply a humble miner but I’m sure that @Gerard_Amatin would know though, he’s a highly EVE-educated erudite.

No they won’t turn you criminal by accident. When in HS, turn your safety-setting to yellow to make sure you can’t “accidentally” take any action that would give you criminal status.
But they also won’t attack any ganker unless that ganker has attacked you or the attacked ship was in your fleet and you had set the Drones to “guard” this fleetmember.
Ok thanks for the yellow hint.
So i would still have to target the red criminals to get my drones to fire on them?
What if i have an auto target module - which i heard was a thing.
No. You can’t “auto-attack” other players. If you want to kill criminals, you have to manually lock them and fire on them. However, at the Jita Undock thats completely useless, because the Tornado or Thrasher they use are built for 1-shot-kills.
You don’t achieve anything by killing their ship afterwards, except a worthless whoring-killmail of course where the Sentries did the job and you did a scratch. If that is your goal, use an Interceptor or Instalock T3 and just point them, it has the same effect.
Different type but if you fleet with someone and they become suspect and you shoot them you get aggro of their drones and if they don’t pay attention or recall them soon enough you might get unintentionally popped by your fleetmate.
Now that’s an interesting way to put it. Im actually just interested in introducing them to rule #1 - Don’t fly what you can’t afford to lose.
After all, we want the gankers to have fun playing the game, just like everyone else.
? They have already priced in their shiploss, since it is guaranteed by he mechanics. They don’t care a bit for who is whoring onto the killmail. You don’t “make them die”. They die whether you are there or not and the Station Sentries and/or CONCORD will probably do 90% of the damage anyway.
They can die quicker then, and without their loot. I’ll do my best to make sure they have the full game experience.
jeez, you must be pretty new to this business. They don’t care who is on the killmail or how fast they die. Their job is done after the first shot. And they are looting the wreck with another char, rest assured they will get it.
You have absolutely no idea how they operate, so please take some advice and learn the mechanics first. Shooting at them after they got their criminal status is a 100% worthless waste of time. If you really want to do some “Antiganking” then you first have to learn how ganking works and how they make their profits. Then you find weakspots where you could be a thorn in their side. It’s possible, even while the game mechanics are not supporting it very well.
But this “sitting at Jita undock and whoring on killmails” isn’t worth anything, its a pure waste of time. It has absolutely zero effect on ganking.
Yes you are right that i need to figure out how it all works.
I appreciate everyone’s comments.
But it has a nice effect on my mood after being ganked
Trial and error, just go for it and have fun!
No worries. Fun it will be.
I see the answer in the first post has been answered, but let me answer the title question:
Yes, there are friendly fire accidents in this game.
It often happens when bombs are involved. In fact, you can even kill your own ship that way.
