Asking for opinions on a future gaming laptop

Oï !

Alright, my current computer have been around for already quite some time, and the components within are starting to show their age. With christmas (and birthday two days later) coming soon, I would like to start 2019 anew, with a new configuration, even if that mean I’ll have to endure to worst price/performance ratio of gaming laptops.

I looked up a few ones, and I decided to take a deeper look into the HP gaming brand : OMEN (no no, not the cruiser), and they seems quite interesting with decent prices. Since I will certainly not play most recent AAA games at full graphics (mostly Destiny 2, The Witcher 3 and of course : EVE Online, finally being able to enter the Abyss with quality presettings !), I think a GTX 1060 should be enough, will not cost as much as a 1070, 1080 and their Ti versions. Here is the laptop that got my eye : OMEN 15.

The specs are :

Processor : Intel Core i7-8750H (2.2 GHz base, can be pushed to 4.1, 9MB Cache and 6 cores)
Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB GDDR5 dedicated)
Display : 15.6 diagonal 4K IPS anti-glare micro-edge WLED-backlit (3840x2160)
Memory : 16 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (1 x 16 GB)
Storage : 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA
Secondary storage : 512 GB PCIe

With only three reviews on the HP Store, it’s quite hard to make an idea on the subject, so I thought I’ll ask my fellow capsuleers ! So, what are your opinions, and if it’s bad, what could be a better option ?

Thanks in advance, fly safe !

Check PC Specialist (www.pcspecialist.co.uk), I’ve found them very good so far. My last one was 6 years old and still worked fine with EvE and Battletech on full highest graphics settings.

I took a look at it, and to get the same performances as the one I linked above, I need to pay a much higher price

Someone else have an opinion, please ?

Depending on your location around the world, a xiaomi gaming has similar specs and might be cheaper - they are a huge smartphone brand trying to enter other market areas.

It’s cheaper because of the graphic card. It’s a GTX 1050 Ti, and I’m aiming for a 1060

that screen is small, I hope you have magnifying glass.

There is a 1060 version. Only 256gb ssd though.

I bought a 17" Acer Predator with the following specs off newegg about 6 months ago and run Eve on max settings no issues at all! VERY satisfied with the purchase.

Acer PH317-51-70KH 17.3" IPS
Intel Core i7 7th Gen 7700HQ (2.80 GHz)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 16 GB Memory
512 GB SSD
Windows 10 Home 64-Bit
