I got this idea from the possible use of Asteroids occlusion, to shield from direct line of sight hits, first.
Then I thought, maybe we could also beam truck them… instead of mining them…
Then I thought some wormholes-holders (keep them from collapsing) mobile structures could use icy asteroids or compressed icy gas or something to get them going… and make Asteroid shipment through worm-holes possible also…
Truck-ships could haul several Asteroids, like trees on a river, to a desired location… a facility or station, where they could be stored outside in some special container or some kind of bubbled perimeter, just for storage or for the station functioning… this the most sensitive part for economic reasons… how many Asteroids could you haul at once? Could you use small bubbles and link them together to form a sort of freight train in space ( more like a barge on a river ideally )… how would many Asteroid behave once “beamed” together??? etc.
Hubs and storage: some kind of external reserve that could be stolen… or mined in tranquillity with the station guns well armed…
A secondary use for Asteroids tracking beams could be that of using them in combat for various purposes… ramming… shielding… bumping… technically idk how vertexes would work or other structures in space would behave with solids… a lot of details would need to be sorted out…
Hyper-speed warp and planetary collision is unnecessary load also not to be considered.
Questions?
Pvp-e obviously would get much more tactical with Asteroid collision. Many old pve sites could stop functioning the way they always had… there’s small Asteroids and BIG chunks of Asteroids also…
A belt of Asteroids around a station could serve a double purpose… minimize direct hit siege dmg, provide cover, like a big orbiting wall, with maybe a secondary gate to get through before getting access to the internal perimeter… this could involve thousands of moving asteroids, so it would have a considerable power impact (load)…
Then normally ships just bumps into an asteroid (or pass inside it) but no dmg is taken for hitting one… there is no kinetic repercussions for collisions… as if some sort of ABS was always active on every ship navigational system naturally… in a sense this mechanism could need a reharsal, because a hypothetical Asteroid explosion, should make omni-dmg also probably, whilst having their own EHP… then a single Venture with a C-type mining Crystal should still be faster to destroy an a. than any fleet barrage with conventional ammo even on a small Asteroid..
