just because you CAN do something, does not mean that is what it was designed for.
you can pvp in a skiff, surprisingly well in fact, doesnât mean thats what it was designed to do. Battle badgers used to be a thing, and where surprisingly nasty. doesnât mean that they where designed for pvp. people live in wormholes, they where never designed for that. hell, in theory a one man corp could hold sov over an entire region, doesnât mean that was ever the intended design behind the system.
up until recently, capital ships REQUIRED at least one other character just to move from system to system, yes that is normally done with alts, but its obvious that the original design intention was for group play.
yes, it did, it made capitals more viable for solo play. the change to citadels has increased the price tag, and pushed things back towards group play. whats your point? if you want to keep your capital safe with a POS, you can keep it in a small pos without the ability to change ships, you put it in the shield and safe log for ~1bil. if you want to keep a capital safe and not be able to change ships with a citadel, you drop an astrahaus, tether and safe log.
if you want the added luxury of more security and the convenience of changing ships, then you pay a little more and drop a fort. a solo player CAN do that, nothing is stopping them except the price tag. just like nothing is stopping a solo player from building and flying a capital, except the price tag.
Need to refit capital ship while docked at an Asterhaus? Use a mobile depot or for really quick refitting, use a Nestor. Or use a Fortizar. Or stop flying capitals. They are supposed to have some inherent weaknesses.
Itâs not hostility though. These people just are not convinced that it is needed (more accessibility for players to use caps). And the fear of additional hurdle which comes with implementation of such thing.
Usually you donât have all your money in 1 ship so i would say that this is not unreal to expect like 5-6 billion in wallet if you have carrier. And in this case Fortizar does not look like âtoo expeisiveâ for 2-3 players⌠Yes, itâs investment butâŚ
Personally i donât like Astrahusii for they are cheap and boring to kill. The cluster is already overfilled by cheap âhousesâ which nobody cares to attack. Adding more features to them does not help.
OK so SOME people feel that there is NO need to have a place for a single solo pilot to safely dock his singular capital ship.
Sadly, this is suppose to be a game that doesnât pidgeon hole itâs player base into playing the way the âmajorityâ of the game feels it should be done.
To appropriately allow player freedom, what this game is built on, the ability for a singular player to have an affordable opportunity to store his ships, including capitals is a necessity.
Removing POSâs with zero way for a single player to store his capital without needing to front 11billion ISK is DETRIMENTAL to the game. It only TAKES AWAY and adds NOTHING.
You already have a safe way to store your capital. Tether and safe-log. In fact itâs even safer than in a citadel, because a citadel can be destroyed a logged out ship cannot be.
Want to fly other ships and not be locked into your cap for life? Back in the day before capitals could dock. There where these things called cap sitters. Itâs an alt trained up with the bare minimum skills to sit in a capital and all they do is hold it logged off while not needed.
Takes 2-3 months of training to set one up, so 3-4.5 bil to plex the account till its ready abother bIL in skill books. And even better, with skill extractors you can even farm the account once itâs trained up which will cover the cost of the sub for you and even fetch a small profit, eventually paying for itself. There you go. A completely safe way to store your capital when not in use, that costs half as much as a fort, and will eventually pay for itself completely.
Another character isnât a requirement in any way. But it is an option.
Want to put your capital somewhere safe, fortizar letâs you do that with solid defenses and the ability to switch ships. But it will cost you 12 bil.
Want your cap safe but donât want to spend a lot of isk. Tether to an Astra and safe log. Only costs 1b but you wonât be able to switch ships.
Want to keep your cap safe, donât want to spend 12 bil on a fort, but you want to be able to switch ships. Use a cap sitter alt. For 4 or 5 bil, that will eventually completely pay for itself even faster if you also use it for PI.
There are a variety of options available for all price points. The more convenience you want, the more expensive it gets.
Itâs the choice you make when you want a capital ship. What the heck does a solo player need a capital ship for anyway? Ohhhhh wait, I see. You want to carrier rat and make a lot of isk per hour and then have somewhere to hide when the bad guys come around. You want to mine in your Rorqual and gobble up a bunch of ore and then have somewhere to hide when the bad guys come around.
So essentially you are whining that you want to be able to take advantage of capital ships and boosted income, but youâre too cheap to pay for the structure that was designed for docking capital ships. Sounds a lot like âI want my cake and I want to eat it too!â.
Why donât you - I dunno - find some like-minded people in this multiplayer game and you all can rat or mine or ship spin to your heartâs delight - heck you might even be enough to scare the baddies away. And with all that insane isk youâre making together, you can pay for the structure youâre supposed to use. Instead of asking CCP to break their game balance for you.
You know I would favor a structure that allows capital docking for solo players on the condition that it has no reinforcement/vulnerability timer. Heck, give it even more hit points if you want. But give it no timer so little rats donât have a 100% safe bolt-hole if someone serious wants to grind them out of existence.
over my memory of the last few years, capitals have received lots of positive enhancements.
capitals can gate
capitals have more capital specific modules now, ie capital injectors and prop mods, dreads can execute sliding sieges etc.
capital logi class.
capitals have t2 and faction modules now
capitals have anti-subcap weapons.
capitals rat much better than they did 3 or 4 years ago
capital rats exist which is basically an instant money injection to capital pilots whenever they spawn
capital mining ships are real now, instead of pos ornaments.
return of aoe weapons
uber range on carriers, combined with forts and keeps being 1000km from gates.
supercap docks that even work in lowsec.
On the negative side
space cancer from using the jump drive
will not be able to live in a small pos forever.
yeah youve already made it obvious your only argument is that you hate people in smaller corps than you
you dont need to keep driving the point home youve been quite clear about your irrational hatred for people who play the game differently
i also suspect it has something to do with protecting your own income so its nothing important
My corp has 7 people. All of them are me. There are no smaller corps than me.
I have no irrational hatred for people who play the game differently. I do dislike people who want the game developers to change the game to suit their playstyle, however.
Wrong again. Believe it or not I am trying to help you and save you from yourself. Do you know that many years ago I used to hate goons and others for events like Hulkageddon and Burn Jita and general ganking and antisocial behavior in high sec - back when I was an ice miner? Now I realize they did me the biggest favor ever. Theyâre still jerks - but I get the point they were making. EVE is a multiplayer game whether you like it or not.
