Simple is abuseable and intrusive is expensive. That’s the problem.
But an AFK monitor isn’t what we’re talking about here. The proposal was for a manual AFK flag that you can set for yourself. And that’s just an interface button and an icon.

after 2minute without mouse movement/keyboard or window has not focus, set afk to true.
Check every 20s.

One problem though, client can lie to server, theoretically. Thankfully, in this proposal there is also a possibility to manually change that flag, so everything is OK.
it’s not an indication from the server but from the client.
Of course this implies that this indication should be exposed explicitly by the client (default : false)
Yes, please add an indicator above an AFK player’s ship so I know which Orca to punt out of the belt…
And as soon as someone is flying around with the AFK flag set:
