A toggle option for not showing any kind of hangar graphics.
When you are docked you see the GUI and your ship, nothing else. Ship just hovering in total blackness, with a few invisible light sources so you can actually see the ship.

Yes please.
The new hangar graphics may look nice but after the initial impression hereās nothing new to look at. Yet it takes a lot of PC resources.
I even started using āview outsideā in Upwell structures as default setting to avoid laptop noise (my fans only activate while docked, go figure), but this option isnāt available within NPC stations.
A black screen while docked would be nice. Or make it a pretty 2D picture, whatever.
I donāt need my PC to be rendering the most intensive scene during the least intensive gameplay part where Iām likely not even paying attention to the game.
Yeah, I actually also use mostly āOutside Viewā on Upwells. For the same reasons. Dunno if we need a āblack hangarā but a ālow-detailā version for sure.
Yeah, an alternate option to the overloaded in-station graphics would definitely be a good feature to haveā¦
CTRL Shift F9 is your go-to-option for now. This hides almost anything but windows.
But, but⦠all the in-station billboard adsā¦
Blackout BOBs - kill all the lights.
Is it just me or are we moving further and further away from walking in stations? You canāt spin some ships and now we donāt even want to see them dockedā¦
I guess I am the odd ball here. I really do not mind the inside the station graphic. SHRUGS If I wanted to I can always turn the light all the way down.
I use outside view for Upwell structures as well. It started eating up too many resources in one of the recent patches is one reason, but also right after the new Upwell interiors came out I just didnāt like them. Too much going on inside there, ship doing weird āādockingāā motions and what not. I donāt need to see my other ships docked in there either. Iāve kept those interiors turned off from the get go.
Sometimes I use full-screen map as a background in the stations. And, of course, ctrl shift F9.
The big difference between this Black Hangar suggestion, and CTRL SHIFT F9 is the ship being visible, so you have a graphical way of seeing what you are in.
The reason for the suggestion is that the station interior (3D) graphics (and related visual effects) use unreasonable amount of resources on their own and especially considering how useless the feature is.
As I note in my post earlier in this thread the whole thing could be replaced by a static background image and cut away like 95% of resource use even if the ship itself is still rendered.
So the problem is not whether someone likes the visuals or not and the whole thing could be kept in the form of a background image, and even better make it an option in the settings so people can choose whether they want the animated background or the static image which should make everyone happy.
SHRUGS
Doubt that CCP is going to do any of that anytime soon. In my mid range gaming comp. I do not notice any slowness or lag. Even when I have multiple windows open and even watching a video. As for being a resource hog.. Whether the graphics displayed are useful or not. That is just the nature of the beast with any game.
