BPO/BPC Blender - Invention

I’d like to see a tool added that lets you invent faction or even unique BPO/BPCs from combining common BPO/BPCs.

Just a thought, but some BPO/BPCs are stupid rare and entirely controlled by one alliance or another, show up for sale rarely and are very over priced.

I’d image a skill tree (so new skills and thus more skill points), similar to a cross between Skinr and T1 to T2 invention. Faction prints are basically combinations of 2 racial ships, so why not allow people with skills to have a chance to invent them. This would shake up who controls which prints and rebalance things, while also allowing super rare items to be slowly added over time, thru skill and luck.

As CCP likes to add new items in order to do new things, instead of just rehashing things, this allows things like:
New Skills
New Decryptors
New Data Cores
New BPOs and BPCs
Ways to add new T2 BPOs
Change the price of faction prints, rebalance faction Titans, Super Carriers, FAX and Dreads.

What would happen if you mixed a Trig Zirnatra with a Caldari Wyvern? Would that be an option?

Exponential increases in skills for things like creating BPOs vs BPCs.
Exponential decreases in chances to obtain things as well, so getting a Worm or Gila print would be easier than getting a Komodo.

Now I see some groups not wanting this as it could tank the price of faction items. This would give everyone a chance without needing dozens of ships on a rare site in Sov without tanking the total price for everyone else. How many people would put out billions of isk on materials and BPCs and an invention time of a few months to get a BPC? Some would and some wouldn’t.

When moon ores were hard to find CCP added reactions that could only be reprocessed and these added a different way to get ores that were controlled by a single faction. This would do the same thing but for BPOs and BPCs.

This could add a whole new series of ships, which drives player input into game play, which CCP Developers always publicly say that they love to see. Hell make unique things into a whole new faction, which would be driven across the entire player base.

Which ship model do these hybrids use?

I’ve been kicking a similar idea around, but it would work very differently.
Random t2 invention of existing pirate bpcs.
Let’s start with the Dramiel.
When invented, you randomly roll one of the base t2 shiptypes and get one per level bonus and one role bonus.
So you might get Assault Frigate and an extra damage bonus or you could get Logistics Frigate and a remote rep bonus.
I’d stop short of allowing role specific modules. So no CovOps Cloak or Assault Damage Control additions (Astero would still keep its cov ops cloak).
This could generate some insane overpowered combinations (Daredevil with a Web range bonus?) Or completely brick the bpc (Dramiel with scanning bonuses or damage bonus to Hybrids).
Just an idea.

I think it would depend on the ship, but look at the faction ship skills requirements. Guristas Pirate ships are a combo of Caldari and Gallente, the frigate looks like a Merlin, Harpy or Hawk; so one of those for sure. Then likely another Gallente hull in the mirroring slots its a Incursus, Ishkur or Enyo.

Add prints, plus a new type of data core and new decryptor, at least that what I’d assume they’d do. And based on how they’ve added things in the past there would be some type of specific Invention skill for that, maybe a couple skills or maybe a whole tree like we got with Skinr.

Hit invent and X amount of time later maybe you get it maybe you don’t.

Higher chance for a frigate with decreasing success till you reach Titan.

So the way I read this, its essentially a ship based version of Abyssals right. You start with a ship type and the get a random output with bonuses that go up or down. I guess I could see that working and I hadn’t thought about it before but it does make sense.

My original thought was more along the lines of adding a new way to pull down faction ships and reset how those are obtained. But also allow an interactive way for players to work with the CCP Developers in creating new ships all together.

To be fair I do see a down side to this, aside from unbalanced fleet mechanics, on the basic level the ships would have to be designed and added to the game which would require more smaller updates so those ships are actually displayed in space. But even if its a useful tool to say create/invent new ships, could be something that could only be done from a BPO and then when its added theres a short period where a small number can produce that ship, until others invent it or they offer it for sale from an NPC.

I’d go so far as to mark the very first 1st one with a special tag, or maybe the 1st ten. Which then creates another special thing that people can fight to own. Something super rare that more bragging rights. Let the 1st person create something name it (within reason, maybe from a list of random names; like the do with toons as I doubt we all want to see a ship named X profanity listed) and have their name appear on every BPO/BPC. People will have another way to add a permanent mark.

It would add another career line of Starship Creation with people specializing in that and working hand in hand with developers. Yes you will have people in the Big Null Blocs that do this, but you’d also have smaller Corps work or maybe even specializing in it and while theres only a few locations to source something then there would be power changes to everything.

Maybe have a period where you get ships out that aren’t specifically listed in the skill tree, so only the creators know the details, and so big groups show up with full fleets where people haven’t studied every effect down to a finite degree and fleets of small ships pull an underdog victory.

When you go 1v1 PVP you aren’t sure if the other guy is in an 10 million isk fit or 10 billion and there’s uncertainty. In big fleets doctrines are designed to tank the other side, but if the other side is in something new then engagements would become unpredictable.
