BPO research Cost

Is there anyway to work out the cost of research an Orca BPO (as an example) in advance of having the blueprint? I am trying to work out if its worth my time researching one or just buying off the market and maybe researching for sale in the future. Is there a website or some kind of tool that will help with this? There seems to be a tool for everything but this or I may have missed it.

I’m not sure if there is an up to date calculator, as it’s not a simple equation. Research costs take into account the type of blueprint, system cost index, structure modifiers, skills & research implants. You could have a read here to get started https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Research

There is a way to work out the cost of research for any BPO. You’ll need to know a few things about the system you are researching in and you’ll need to know the material costs of your end product.

You have to consider that each research level has its own base cost, R1 = 105, R2=250, R3=595, R4=1,414, R5=3,360, R6=8,000, R7=19,000, R8=45,255, R9=107,700, R10=256,000.

Each BPO has an implied material cost multiplier. For the Orca it is 122,866.17

Then consider that ME and TE have different System Cost multipliers based on a rolling average of each type of research conducted in that system. For example, the ME system cost multiplier for my home system is +3.548357066 %. This value is being constantly updated by the server.

The specific structure your using to research makes a big difference too. Upwell structures can have both a “structure bonus” an “installed rig bonus” and a unique tax rate. Consider for this example -4%,-10% and +1% respectively.

The cost of researching R1 = 105 x 122,866.17 x 0.03548357066 x 0.96 x 0.9 x 1.01 = 399,470 ISK

(This is simplified. The actual formula has multiple roundup modifiers.)

For simplicity consider that 122,866.17 x 0.03548357066 x 0.96 x 0.9 x 1.01 = 3,804.47

Now just multiply 3,804.47 by each base for R2 through R10 (To calculate the cumulative ME research level costs for this system/structure/BPO combination)

R2 = 250 x 3,804.47 = 951,119 ISK
R3 = 595 x 3,804.47 = 2,263,663 ISK
R4 = 1,414 x 3,804.47 = 5,379,528 ISK
R5 = 3,360 x 3,804.47 = 12,783,037 ISK
R6 = 8,000 x 3,804.47 = 30,435,801 ISK
R7 = 19,000 x 3,804.47 = 72,285,028 ISK
R8 = 45,255 x 3804.47 = 172,171,523 ISK
R9 = 107,700 x 3,804.47 = 409,741,975 ISK
R10 = 256,000 x 3,804.47 = 973,945,640 ISK

To then get the individual costs per level subtract R (n-1) from R n

The incremental cost of R2 = 951,119 - 399,470 = 551,649 ISK

You dont need that indvidual BPO-cost-multiplier, but an individual multiplier per (research)level.

2 = 29/21 = 1.38
3 = 23/7 = 3.29
4 = 39/5 = 7.80

6 = 928/21 = 44.19
7 = 2200/21 = 104.76
8 = 5251/21 = 250.05
9 = 4163/7 = 594.71
10 = 29660/7 = 4,237.14
(iirc i got these numbers from an early devblog or forumthread for the new industry)

TotalJobCost = BaseValue x multiplier x Jobactivity x SystemIndexJobType x FacilityBonus x FacilityTax

• BaseValue
  is the Value of the inputmaterials (its near the value of the price you see in hangar) getting from ESI as “adjustedPrice”
• multiplier (see above)
• Jobactivity
  for manufacturing = 1
  for Research ME/TE/invent = 0.02
• SystemIndexJobType
  value in percent, also from ESI
• FacilityBonus
  StructureBonus and Rigbonus
• FacilityTax
  custom tax set by owner

ISK-value differ a bit, because of some delay between EVE ingame and provided ESI-data.

Its a few years since i last touched my sheet , so i just removed some unnecessary parts and updated to the current SDE data.
