Who is the competent freighter pilot I took down?
Is he in the room with us?

If you truly manually control all these characters by hand, you should have no fear demonstrating your ability to multibox in perfect sync within one second. I’ve been playing EVE since 2014 and have fought in thousand-man fleets. I have never seen any alliance fleet fire with such uniform, lightning-fast synchronization. All you hear in comms is only the commander barking orders.
This is becoming an all time thread.
THANK YOU CLINT!!
you are the zlegions himself!!!!my english is bad ,i thought you are the others hours ago…ahhhhh!hate!so much hate!!!!i am burning in hate again!
okok, with your love and your lovely horsely? pass
I only get time to haul Jita to Amarr on weekends. Each run already burns 100–200 mil ISK one-way,sometimes 300 mil ISK. Even grinding nonstop every day for a month, I barely scrape together 3–5 bil profit tops.
Meanwhile you guys collect billions in “tolls” from Jita, Uedema and sometimes Amarr. At this rate I might as well just buy ISK via PLEX and wire the cash straight to you. Hauling can never make that kind of money!
i can not haul evey day infact ,how can i give so much isk to you all gankers!
If implemented correctly, absolutely nothing would happen.
I mean, why would they implement it in a way that simple “touch” counts as “intentional bump”?
There are easy ways to determine if someone had at least 200% of his ships base speed + an active propmod.
And in addition, a 3-strikes rule can be established, like if you bump (see rules above) into the same ship more than 3 times in a certain time period, you get flagged. Chances that this is unintentional is pretty much zero and it is easily avoidable once people get used to it being in place and a proper warning is given after the first and second collision the game counts as “bump”. Players would simply adapt their maneuvering if they don’t want to intentionally bump.
And outside of HS it wouldn’t have any consequence anyway.
Not saying it should be implemented, but if Fenris would want to have it in the game, it would absolutely be possible without causing game-breaking side-effects for the normal player.
yeah!what you said is what i want to say,my english is bad can not speak well,i am stand in your line!
Ill be in Uedama in a few hours, see you there
nonono,do not wait me,i did not sleep well yesterday, you may not seeing me
yesterday night is a rain and storm night! :)
It’s not trivial to determine who caused the collision , like, you can use cloak+mwd and someone rams you from the side, now you also got suspect, which means that attacking you became free, and that 3 billion frigate fast tackle does not even have to fear gate guns anymore.
This idea has in fact A LOT of unintended side effects for casual player.
yes, it absolutely is. In the internal calculations ships are points with a hitbox around them and vectors in which direction those “objects” are moving. So if you have Hauler X, moving to the left with it’s propmod on and Machariel Y moving to the top with it’s propmod on, you only need to check which vector pointed into the direction of the affected ship. It will be the Machariels vector pointing towards the hauler, else it could not have hit him.
Bring back ECM bursts to frigates. That was a fun time, breaking the locks of 20+ catalysts. ![]()
so you go head on, or stay in the align way and he bumps into you, flagging himself… or you are on converging paths, with mach leading it, so again, hauler vecror points to the mach and from engine/game state, basically suicides itself by flagging and marking himself suspect to help the attackers. It really is not trivial.
Also, note that all of the current mechanics are actually well intended by CCP for over a decade, and are not a by product of some other change… There even is actual GM post explaining them https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021692219-Ship-Bumping (I suppose because many people without mechanic knowledge flood support)
Don’t make it science man. If you see two ships at a gate, one bumping another, could you tell who is intentionally bumping who? Yes? Anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature could tell.
Then rest assured, a computer can tell. And as you might have ignored: nobody “flags himself” for the first collision, just for multiple collisions in a row and in a certain timeframe. Which makes it pretty much impossible to occur “by coincidence” or “falsely flagging the hauler”.
And yes, maybe the current mechanics are intended. Thats why this topic is in the “Player Features and Ideas” section, someone asked to actually change something. Thats why we are discussing how it could be done. Not nessessarily saying it should be done or that it matches with CCPs current path of design.
Hey Clint, keep up the good work!

It is science, because at the end, you have to translate your “intent” to actual code (or have some clanker do it), with a set of rules. And there comes the problem - there’s many, many things that are obvious to humans, that are not trivial to formalize. And then, once you have something actually formalized, people will start exploiting it, especially in Eve.
Good example I can think of is iRacer - highly competitive game, where collisions are penalized for “greater good” and are source of drama pretty much every single race/day. Even they opt for a “no fault” system where which auto flags and penalizes every involved party, completely ignoring who caused it. Fault can be assigned only if you petition it and requires human review. You’d imagine that if collision detection was so trivial as you describe, a game that’s all about collisions would have it solved long ago (not to mention iracing pretty much removes the Z axis from it completely).
I think this could make a fun thread idea!
On one side we make various simple bump if-statements a computer could use to distinguish intent, and on the other side we think of all the ways to exploit it.
This may not be as simple as you at first sight may think it is, but I wouldn’t want to derail this thread.
Yeah, isn’t that hard to find out if a Machariel is bumping a freighter, who bumped who. Have you seen Machariels bumping Cloakhaulers for ages so they couldn’t warp? No? Guess why… because it doesn’t work. Have you seen Corvettes bumping freighters out of alignment for ages? No? Probably because it doesn’t work.
Now it isn’t that hard to calculate a mass-difference and an impact velocity that is required to bump something so hard it’s warp is permanently delayed. It’s a tiny window compared to all possible ship masses and impact speeds in the whole game.
You really don’t make it an issue that needs to work a 1000000% on every imaginable situation. Yeah maybe some guy finds out how to exploit using an Orca to bump an Interceptor. So what? Will it be relevant for the game? Probably not, because that situation will likely never occur.
