So I just learned about " Can Flippers". Miners who mine in space, their hull fills up and they discard their cargo so they can come back later with a hauler to load up and leave. Is this something people are really doing?
Correction, Can Flippers are people who fly in and snatch those cargo loads.
Correction, those would be thieves, can flippers are the ones who grab such ore then throw it back out in their own jetcan so when the miner tries to get it back they turn suspect and can be shot at.
That’s cold blooded.
Welcome to EVE!
JETCAN MINING
Someone already posted what can flippers are…
When I jetcan mine in a venture, I am ready to lose my stuff. Once you have that mindset you are good to go. Here is how you avoid losing your jetcan.
Set up a safe spot in between nowhere and somewhere. This is where you jetcan your loads. Remember jetcan is only good for a few hours, but I think opening and closing to add more ore adds to the life timer. My point is you better have a docked hauler ready nearby,
Combat probes cannot zero on jetcans, so it will be safe the less you hang out there. I never lost a jetcan so far doing this kind of mining. At worst I might lose my venture. Mine your gas site in low sec, then zip over to the jetcan drop and zip back. I do my trips randomly, never letting it fill to 5000. This avoids someone waiting in the shadows for my venture to get 100% full.
The only time I jetcan mine is where the system has no stations.
Fantastic post and very helpful. Thank you.
Caution: After 2 hours these cans just disappear, no matter if you open them or add some content later. You may test this time period in a long mining spree.
I haven’t tested it either. However by the time you mine more ore/gas, you can place a second can and move the ore from the old can to the new can. However I have twist for you on this, something I did in WHs, place an alt character in that spot running a miasmos, log off in space. Without multiboxing, swap between the two characters by logging on and off during the transfers. The miasmos will return to that point when you log back into the system. The only thing to be concerned about is someone finding your miasmos during the 30 second logoff timer.
Stay alert and fly safe o7
