Can we get a name purge of 10+ year old one and done trial accounts (and the like) with no activity?

That’s not what my logic is, you should read again what I said before making incorrect assumptions.

Personally I’m fine with that. What’s the incentive to pay if you don’t get special treatment?

.

I like the way you think. Maybe CCP should hire you to head their Customer Service department.

I would be terrible at it, I’m extremely disagreeable.

.

You have the right attitude towards customers. Customers pay for something, it’s right that they get value for their money.

Yeah but that’s the point. Modern business is built on the idea that once you have handed over the money; the business should make every effort possible to ignore the customer. Actually wanting to provide value for money isn’t what businesses want to do today.

,

That’s true… then we’d both be terrible at it.

So, in other words, I never attacked anyone and you’re making it up. You make an accusation. You back it up. Clearly, you can’t.

Again, you project. What you’re essential stating is that I should not defend my position, but just let people make faulty complaints based on their own strawmen that don’t make sense in the context of what I actually stated. We just had a guy bring up his deceased father, when said father’s account would not even be eligible for the name purge according to the criteria I set forth. What you’re mad about is the fact that I’m right and none of you can come up with a single practical downside to my request. You tried strawmanning and that failed. So you’ve given up on arguing against an issue and decided to attack me personally.

If you don’t like the idea. That’s fine. I hear you loud and clear and your dislike has been noted. But you simply not liking something is not an argument against something. No more than me not liking onions is a legit argument for why burger joints should stop offering onions as a topping.

No one is being laughed at. It’s a game forum. It’s not that serious. This character is just for the forums. She hasn’t undocked in ages. You clearly have nothing more to offer besides vitriol. I’m going to do you a favor and dismiss you. Goodbye.

It is precisely your logic. It may not be your intent, but it is the logical conclusion in regard to your statement.

Would it not stand to reason that those who did not “buy the game” (i.e. pay a subscription, as nobody buys a copy of EVE anymore) are not entitled to their character names?

There is a myriad of other examples that completely dismantle your statement. But, again, you pay for access to the game. You are not entitled to a name or anything else. You have no ownership of anything in EVE Online. Do you contend with this statement?

You do get special treatment. Double the skill training time, access to all skills/levels, extra daily incentives, a weekly SP incentive and extra event incentives. Removing name security from active alphas is just bad business and could lead to server wide confusion. This is why I’d restrict name purges to characters on dead accounts with the characters in question having less than 5M SP who haven’t logged in in a decade. Characters that were never actually played, that no one ever knew to begin with.

this is a lie, ALphas at inception received .46, that is 46% of the training speed of an omega… Omega time has never changed, ever.

The logical conclusion should be that since both Alphas and Omegas pay for the right to install the game and use it, they both have the right to keep the names! If you conclude anything different from “by buying the game and then creating the chars” that’s the fallacy of your reasoning!

so by all extension, this character should be eligible to have its name purged… i want it…

the way i see it, if a name is either at Molea, or on the physical monument in iceland, no purging of names. my IRL friend hasn’t played in 10 yrs or so… his name shouldn’t be purged. He may return.

Since when do Alphas pay for alpha access? Do you seriously not realize EVE is free to download and play? Fill me in on what I’m missing.

Clearly there is no fallacy in my reasoning you can detect seeing as you have not, cannot and will not refute my position.

Well, do you?
Your silence speaks volumes.

  1. The account has been logged into in the past 10 years.
  2. The character has 5M SP.
  3. There would be an e-mail notification 3 months prior letting people know to simply log into the account (not even the specific character) if they want to keep names.

So, no, “Shion Ishii” would not be eligible. The entire point of the name purge would be to purge characters that were made and immediately dumped. Characters never actually played. Characters created and then nigh immediately abandoned on accounts that have long since been defunct. I doubt anyone on any monument fits this criterion.

You would know all this if you actually read and comprehended the subject you’re replying in regard to.

I think asking for a name purge is a lot to ask. Many players return after very a long hiatus. In fact, I have some old characters I haven’t logged in for a long time. They have no skills and are there simple to be a scout for a specific region if needed. Some haven’t logged in in 10 years. I see your point, but it is not likely it will happen. Try to think of a unique name. It will serve you better in the end anyways and be an original name of your own. GL.

The Alpha/Omega was added in 2016 both my accounts were created before that, an active subscription was required to play back then, there was no free option, which means in order to create a character I had to pay for at least one month of subscription. Maybe they need to purge all the characters from accounts that were created AFTER the Alpha/Omega was introduced, are more than 10 years old and were never upgraded to Omega even for one month and leave the accounts that have paid any real money alone!

This is why some of us call Alphas extended trial accounts. Before, you had 14 days to choose to commit

Then simply log into the old account within the 3 month period prior to the purge. Problem solved. If they are unskilled scouts you’ve probably already logged into those accounts in the last decade anyway. Why would anyone even care about the name of an unskilled throwaway scout anyway? You could literally make a new one named “e948htjio5” at any time.

And I could care less about some particular name. We’ve all had tons of names we’ve tried that were taken and we just figured out another one. You act as if I stopped playing EVE, stuck on the character select screen to this very day and can never play again until I get some name. That was back in late October. We we’re already past that by more than a month when I started this thread. By happenstance I stumbled upon a similar name over a month later which reminded me and then I looked up the name. This is when I realized there are many long dead, never-active accounts. Many of which are likely trials that never went anywhere. This is not about me. The principle of the matter is that random characters, made and nigh instantly abandoned over a decade ago, should not be restricting names from active players in 2024.

That is incorrect, sir. There were trial accounts. In fact, most of the accounts with characters that fit my criterion for name removal would be trail accounts that never became paying customers. Alphas are just an “indefinite trial”.
