Capital shield flex hardener is pointless

CCP do you guys ever plan on making these actually useful? Even with the Avalanche’s bonus to them, they’re still absolutely useless when you have multispecs. I mean sure you could overheat them longer but the horrendous resistance profiles make them really pointless, especially with the cap requirements and a cycle time that makes scripting effectively impossible.

I hope you guys do a rework with these, maybe let them stack with your also useless shield compensation skills or something.

These things should be performing a much higher resistance profile for what they are and the resource needs. Something needs to be done, you’ve already made passive shield hardeners all but useless even with level 5 comp skills. They have a very niche use case unlike armor.

Please for the love CCP, fix this.

Why are you comparing the Capital Shield Flex Hardener with Multispectrum hardeners?

That’s not where the strength of these modules lie. You’re not supposed to use it as a Multispectrum hardener, you’re supposed to script it.

Shield Hardener Module (T2) Primary Resistance Other Resistances
Multispectrum 29.2% 29.2%
EM 49.5% 0%
Capital Flex 19% 19%
Capital Flex (scripted) 57% 0%

In the table above you can see that if you use an Capital Flex Shield Hardener unscripted you get less resists than a Multispectrum Shield Hardener. If you’re not going to script it, there is no reason to use this special Capital module.

However, if you script the module it triples in strength against a single damage type, making it a lot stronger than any of the single-damage type resistance modules.

Only blingy modules like Pith X-Type EM Shield Hardener with 57.1% resistances will surpass the T2 Capital Flex Shield Hardener, but if you’re using bling you might as well use a True Sansha Capital Flex Shield Hardener for 60% resistances against a single damage type.

This is the biggest number you can get out of any single shield resistance module.

So it’s clear that Capital Shield Flex Hardeners have a use:

Script them!

Next, not only does the Capital Shield Flex Hardener provide the highest single resistance type of any module, the capital module is also flexible.

You can look at the enemy fleet composition, see that their damage is going to be mainly kinetic and then script your hardener for kinetic resistances. This is going to give you a lot more EHP than if you were using an EM Shield Hardener against that fleet, or even a Multispectrum Hardener.

The only downside is that the Capital Flex Shield hardener drains significantly more capacitor compared to the other resistance modules. However, you’re talking about the Avalanche; due to the Avalanche role bonus the activation cost is only one tenth of the usual amount, lower even than a Multispectrum Hardener.

Conclusion:

The Capital Shield Flex Hardener has better stats than any single shield resistance module.
The flexibility to choose the most favourable resistance type while in space adds even more effective health to your ship. Unless you use your Capital Shield Flex Hardener unscripted this module is certainly not pointless.

then just use multispecs … problem solved ! if CCP think the module is ok then it is ok !

otherwise i would advice you to read the module stats and then take a closer look !
