I’m seeking feedback on an idea I have.
I want to host a race like event called Cannonball Carnage.
summary is
- 50 pilots
- 5 waypoints, (25 jumps shortest route)
- my website tracks every pilot showing in almost real time where they are, thus showing anyone who wants to know the live status of the race.
- fixed ship type, e.g. t1 cruiser
- no ship changes, ship change = disqualified
- low sec + high sec
- entrance fee, plus big payout for the winner(s) (e.g. 1b each, 50b prize pool)
The idea isn’t really about clicking jump 25 times and the person with the least lag / highest warp speed wins.
The idea is everyone brings friends to kill other pilots in the race, and/or help them win (hence the Carnage)
I have run in to 1 or 2 problems with the idea.
1 - carrier conduit jumps
maybe not too much of an issue as the corp would be risking a carrier in low sec to do it - risk v reward. or I could rule that a pilot seemingly jumping multiple systems at once is banned.
2 - the main problem I am stuck on is I think it would just turn in to a MWD+Cloak trick race, it is very hard to catch which makes it more about a very dedicated gate camp that can still barely catch anyone, compared to 25 jumps of chaos. Also impossible to accurately ban. (ESI doesn’t have an endpoint showing active ship fit otherwise I could - Feature request - get fit of active ship · Issue #683 · esi/esi-issues · GitHub)
so I would appreciate any feedback,
is it a good idea, worth finishing? has it been done before (I couldn’t find anything like it)
any thoughts on the 2 problems I think I have, or any other problems you foresee.
I think your problem is going to be that there’s nothing to keep people on grid unless someone manages to tackle them. Maybe anchor stuff that each participant needs to kill before moving on, like a mobile depot with their name on it that needs to be reinforced to make the win valid? Although I suppose their buddies could do that as well…
@Cannonball_Carnage_CEO
Can you elaborate on this point? I’m not a 3rd party computer genius and don’t really understand.
Second question concerns this:
Would you allow alts? If not, how would you enforce that? Especially considering, you are intending “associated” characters, i.e. friends, be there to actively participate in the “carnage”.
Thanks.
CCP has held race events in the past, althought they weren’t for speed. Just had to go through several waypoints (I think the fastest pilot did get acknowledged if I remember correct). It was high sec + low sec as well, and inevitably (since the waypoints were public knowledge) there were plenty kills at those checkpoints in low sec.
So, it has been done before. Federation Grand Prix is what it was called. Last time it was held was
2021 2022.
EDIT: last time it was held appears to have been 2022.
The 50 pilots in the race would register before the race, it isn’t open to all.
registration fee is 1b (tbd) with a rule of 1 pilot per corp /2 per alliance, and these 50 are racing to win the 50b prize (likely 35 for the winner, plus some for 2nd, 3rd etc)
to become a registered pilot, when registration opens you send the registration fee to my corporation. (or 3rd party trusted partner maybe) and then you are registered in the race, registration closes when 50 pilots are registered.
then on race day those 50 pilots show up at the start system, and log in to my website to grant tracking permission. This is just like when you log in to zkillboard and grant read-kill-mail permission or pyfa to grant read/write skills and fittings.
From that point the location and ship of the 50 pilots is shown on the website to all,
so you can bring alts, and your entire corp along, but they aren’t ‘in’ the race, they are just there to help you and kill / slow everyone else.
after the race you can revoke the location tracking permission of course.
I tried something in Eve Echoes. I shared my random station location then told them to bring a specific Item like a trash bp then contract it me after they dock up.. there’s a 1st, 2nd and 3rd price. I’ve done it for fun.
