By the date, daguerreotypes could be made with exposures of about a minute or less, but still were a tricky business. A daguerreotype is a copper plate covered with a thin silver layer, made sensitive to light right before exposing it and once exposed it is developed and preserved inside a sealed box so it won’t oxydize and nobody touches it (as the silver layer would stick to the skin, removing the image). That photograph was a lot of work for a cat!
