CCP. Eve Online has your love, but does New Eden?

Oi, listen here CCP.
So my deal in New Eden is fighting for the Minmatar. I am loyal to the Republic before my corp. I know that there are many other Capsuleer’s like me in the sky’s of New Eden. And I feel like you CCP, don’t give give us enough. I feel like you don’t care for us, I hope this is not the case.

You have made the players choice of empire entirely meaningless.
You have put a halt to all the empire day events such as the Minmatar Liberation Day event.
You have made the NPC corporations like the Republic Fleet Ordnance (and their counterpart corporations for their respective empires) entirely redundant.
Missions haven’t been looked at, let alone worked on, in a decade, and feel like legacy content.

I know you love Eve Online. But do you love New Eden?
The rework of faction warfare, and bringing the pirates into it, was great and massively appreciated. But a few months after it came out it seems it hasn’t seen much attention, and will eventually, once again, be pushed to the the back of the pile. I acknowledge, of course, that their is a pile. A pile of outdated content. that I hope, is all listed by priority somewhere prominent in the CCP offices. I know you, CCP, care about the sci-fi fantasy that New Eden offers. CCP Okami, speaking in reference to the map update in the new legion expansion, said “core to the fantasy of what Eve is… making sure that this is a useable tool that both allows players to navigate New Eden well, but also express that fantasy and make it feel like you’re truly living in this fantastic sci-fi universe is kind of important too.”

I have listened to CCP Rattati talk about how he feels that the life blood of Eve is the players. I agree. But for me, and many others, the best part of Eve Online, is New Eden.
In this truly sandbox MMO, I believe that CCP Rattati considers New Eden to be “the training wheels” or “back up content” and that perusing it leads to “never realizing what the game is truly about”. He believes the other path is better.
However CCP Rattati has said that an NPC mission overhaul isn’t off the table. Which I’m hopeful for. Because the expansions over the last few years haven’t just been just a another lick of paint, but an entire system overhaul, or the introduction of new systems entirely.

I didn’t start playing Eve Online so that I can feel like an Eve Online player. I started playing Eve Online because (well, spaceships but) I wanted to feel like a Sci-fi tribesman, using my spaceship to fight for freedom from our oppressors. But shortly after making a character, all other information presented to me as the player says that my choice of empire was entirely meaningless.

With the advent of the legion expansion, it seems that there is more attention on Eve Online, and less on New Eden.
I WANT to serve the NPC’s. Not the CEO’s.

Now, I’m off to Jita to by a new hat. Because I can no longer earn it from the NPC’s that distributed it in the first place.

Successful corporations, like CCP, are often infiltrated by yes-men who lack real talent, leading to poor management of EVE Online until change occurs.

Totally true. I wonder how many CCP employees work their jobs knowing that what they, and the players, are passionate about and what’s important to them, is being so blatantly neglected. Not to throw shade at CCP, I don’t claim to know the motives of their management.

CEO calls himself Hellmar, possibly a clue.

I could’ve talked more in this post about how obscured the lore of New Eden is. It can be so hard to find lore, that it seems intentionally obscured from the public.

On a slightly related note it seems like the WoW community have taken control of the game

Imagine CCP taking notes

Missions are outdated and are slowly being replaced by other content. Faction warfare in my opinion has not though. They are actively making balance passes and are looking into awoxing. Have you interacted with the ongoing story though? I couldn’t help but noticed that you failed to mention anything about helping the Minmatar with their recent plights against first The Ashes of Turnur or the Drifter Crisis. I feel you may have missed some pretty big pieces of content.

I created our Alliance Circle of Vheroka with the Idea to show people that roleplay and the little things matter and that it’s actually fun and can enrich the eve-experience a lot.
All my diplo mails and SOTA are written in character, every engagement matters, every little detail creates a history.
Yesterday we formed 60 people from all kind of groups. I just hope I can spread it.

I think eve players need more “lurm the slurm” energy and the whole game would be fun.

I participated in both the Ashes of Turnur and Drifter Crisis. I was in Turnur when the sun killed Turnur I. The Drifter Crisis I could only do so much. I collected BP’s from data sites and moved them along to those who built the items.

The big story beats are great. But it’s the everyday life in New Eden I’m harping on about.

With the Drifter Crisis I wasn’t able to go into the wormholes with a fleet of massive blingy ships to fight the Drifters. And the people who were able, seemed to be min-maxers after the officer mod drops. For me, the play style I have chose isn’t the most lucrative. I float around 3bill ISK all the time. Using all of that on one or two ships to interact with the upper end of the story content isn’t viable for me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not mad at that. I chose it, I’m cool with it.

Slowly replacing missions is a terrible shame, as it’s one of the only ways to directly interact with a faction on an everyday basis. There are player corps in LowSec that kill mission runners, because they’re mission runners, not because they’re empire loyalists. I’m not asking for CCP to rework missions. I’m asking that they would make being loyal to a faction feel more valuable in an everyday life in New Eden.

Sigh, The Ashes of Turnur is a terrorist organization, not the Stellar Event that occured in the system of Turnur. You face them in Homefronts that were introduced in Viridian. (Yes I know they could be more, but it’s good money at least).

You didn’t need anything fancy for the Drifter stuff, but I’m sorry that you felt otherwise.

Hey I wish FW plexes would extend into high sec (0.5-0.7) and would like to see more space in the warzone, without the interference of those not enlisted. I understand your wishes to be able to do more and be rewarded.

Oh snap, my bad. Ashes of Turnur is a terrorist organization. Now that I’ve been corrected, I have heard of them mentioned in the lore portal news report stuff, I didn’t even know they had anything to to with homefronts. And I’m inclined to believe that isn’t my fault. I’ve never done homefronts, that doesn’t help. But now that I know, I should go check it out.

No. You can’t depend entirely on ‘events’ and have it still be a sandbox. ‘Events’ are the complete reverse of a true sandbox.

The sole purpose of any PvE should be to guide people into the true sandbox…PvP…and not as something people end up thinking is the entirety of EVE.

We need less ‘events’, not more.

Homefronts are 3-5 man content though, so be sure to bring some friends.

PVP is not necessary for a sandbox game. Sandbox games can be solo, co-op, pvp, or what have you. Events very much are a thing in sandbox games.

Especially if they’re going to be as poorly run as the Hrada-Oki Caravan. Embarrassing.

Bah…its not a sandbox if someone else has already built the sand castles for you to play in. A true sandbox is ’ here’s some ships and some sand…get on with it’.

Sure go ahead and gatekeep out every single sandbox game.

The empire day event’s were reliable and look forward to. They took them away, and I want them back. They have kept the winter nexus and the crimson harvest. The empire day event’s were an opportunity to show loyalty to a faction, and they took it away. True sandbox or not, it’s less content.

This post came about because I was hoping to get a hat. Hear me out.
I wanted this item "Men’s ‘Republic Valklear’ Beret " because, I thought you could earn it by reaching the highest rank in Minmatar faction warfare, which is Valklear General. I thought, I could wear this item as badge of honor.
Why did I think that?
The item description of the Men’s ‘Republic Valklear’ Beret, reads as follows.

"The Minmatar Republic’s commitment to the cause of total liberation remains unwavering and has become a powerful rallying cry in the new era of the Tribal Republic. Many have responded to the call, and fight to defend the Republic and free their fellow Matari. As a result many new “valklears” – those who are tempered by war and have paid a blood price – have emerged among the ranks of Minmatar capsuleers.

Warriors of the Republic’s military and tribal militias are deeply motivated to liberate the vast numbers of Minmatar who are still held by the Amarr and other slavers. This beret displays your loyalty to the Minmatar Republic, its powerful symbolism signalling the wearer’s commitment to liberate those Matari kin who live in bondage."

Based on the description of the item I was lead to assume the item was an earnt reward. After reaching the rank of Valklear General, I realized I was incorrect. According to a helpful capsuleer in the in game chat channel “English Help”, the only way this clothing item was spawned into New Eden was through the Liberation Day event. And their is no extrinsic reward for reaching the rank of Valklear General, nor the ranks of Divine Commodore, Brigadier General or Luminaire General for their respective factions.
I will concede that my incorrect assumption that the item was an earnt reward is on me, and CCP can’t fix stupidity. But all things considered, I think it’s fair to feel mislead.
Alas, If I wanted one of these item’s I had to buy it off the market. Which I did. And it felt hollow and meaningless. I wanted a badge of honor, but instead, I just got a fancy hat.

This is a problem. This is my point.
Capsuleers who want to play as representatives of a faction of their choice, week in and week out, must depend on the intrinsic value of doing so, and accept that the players of Eve Online and CCP will not value their motivations, goals and playstyle the same as others.
