I definitely don’t believe him, but I’ve seen Falcon stretch the truth enough that I probably wouldn’t regardless. Yes, it’s his job so I can’t really fault him for it, but it doesn’t exactly help the situation.
They have the metrics, but don’t understand the ins and outs of the social dynamics. Metrics don’t help you with that. They can tell you who does what, they can tell you who does what with whom, they can tell you who doesn’t do anything with others. They can’t tell you how players feel, if they’re lonely, how they perceive silent local everywhere, they don’t tell them the amount of excitement a new player felt.
Knowing that random PvP encounters raise retention …
… does not - in any way or form - tell anyone why that’s the case.
Numbers, in the end, never actually reflect reality.
But the absolute best part is all those people who are so fixated on nullsec, they’re not seeing that it’s not actually the most interesting part of the game. CCP bred delusions on a scale that’s absolutely fascinating. Like the post below this one.
The mental leap from “a small guy does not mean anything” to “nullsec” is hilarious. Small guys mean nothing not because of game mechanics, but because they mean nothing. To have small guys mean something, or be important, they need to have the right personality. Targetting farmers as their main audience was the dumbest thing they could have done.
Farmers are, in the end, consumers. They don’t create.
And that’s 50% of why the small guy means nothing.
vOv
I’m done with this.
There is no point in this anymore.
CCP want to believe they’re smarter,
so they deserve finding out that they’re not.
If new players should stay, the game has to be what it’s promising to be. A fierce sci-fi mmo in which every mistake means doom. At the current state its just a stale WOW in space. As long as a small guy does not mean anything in a universe where people with 58 rorqual bots dominate the mineral market and three quarters of the whole galaxy are blue to oneanother and are able to counter anybody and anything with their 5k titans, why should they stay and try to become somebody important. Furthermore I personally wouldn’t try to desperately recruit new players, I would try to bring old players back and keep current players playing. A lot of people left because eve removed it’s harsh environment and also a lot of people left because there is no conflict, nothing worth fighting for. We’re in a time of hoarding stuff instead of blowing stuff up, that needs to change, the game need to be exciting and fun again, the players will then return / stay again.
no farmers = no wolves
no pirates = no anti
Blablabla.
That’s mostly wrong, btw. You’re insulting your intelligence and you have no idea that you’re doing so. Just parrotting the same ■■■■■■■■ all the others keep saying, without ever putting a single brain cell to work.
Fun Fact: PvPers also do PvE.
Fun Fact: It’s only PvErs who don’t do PvP.
Conclusion: We can happily live without them.
Actually this game thrived without them, back when it was still challenging, still had the learning curve, still actually required people to be pirates at heart even if they never fired a single shot.
Stop insulting yourself.
I think you nailed it. When CCP pulled their pants down, spread their cheeks and took a big dump on rorqs and anomalies they are taking away and not adding to the game. The triglavian sharts seem like an interesting step in the right direction but I think it would be interesting if they made a further 5 tiers for rorqs. capitals, supers and titans - with a vulnerability window upon exit (no jumping/warping, res debuffs etc).
What makes Eve very special is it’s fine line it walks between tedium and fun and rarely outright adrenaline shakes. These rare times when moving a pos out into deep null in a badger, getting pulled into a bubble - those stupid choices made with high risk for a taste of the glory. When subtractive changes are made (and this seems the more common route in development over the last decade) you take away from the fun per hour.
Interdiction nullification, Rorq debuffs. Anomaly Debuffs, t3 cruiser debuffs, Jump bridge per system nerf, Jump drive cooldowns… i could keep going on but CCP needs to giveth as much as they taketh to keep the fun per hr up.
To add to @Nasar_Vyron 's point - new experiences need to be added not only for mid tier sp’d pilots, but make fun/hr for vets and new folks as well. The incursion thing is a bad model - having content that is equally profitable for all stages of player sp cheapens the experience for the Vet. To the other extreme high level content like the NPC sotiyos where only very few can participate also does not work (well maybe for those very few).
@CCP_Falcon the whole “just because I am not responding doesn’t mean I am not listening” schtick doesn’t fly. You response was pretty clear by deleting criticism. I get it, it is pretty awesome to have everyone high five everyone, but you should know better than anyone, you need a thick skin for this game.
Hell, what pisses me off most is how CCP Falcon talks about metrics. Well, when you remove “a waste of time” from exploration then more people are going to do exploration simply because they’ll reach the money faster.
Fact of the matter is, though, that when you remove that what you think is a waste of time, which for others is GAME PLAY, like - you know - EXPLORATION, then OF COURSE more people will run the damn content, but THEY DON’T DO IT BECAUSE THEY WANT TO PLAY, THEY DO IT FOR THE REWARD!
THAT is one of the reason why there is ZERO reason to believe that their metrics are worth anything at all! They don’t reflect reality. At all. They’re just numbers. They never do. It needs smart and thoughtful people to turn these numbers into something that more closely resembles reality!
In the end did you, CCP, willingly remove actual gameplay from the game and managed to increase the amount of people doing the content. Yes. YES,
GRATS MATE, MORE PEOPLE WILL DO IT WHEN YOU MAKE IT FASTER TO GET REWARDS!
THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT’S A GOOD THING!
IT JUST MEANS THE WAGESLAVES FOUND ANOTHER THING TO FARM!
I’m done being insulted like this.
Former King of Pirates or not,
CCP community manager or not.
You’re not one of us.
You’re a sell-out.
You mean there is proof that people under contract with the corporation who program the game you play are actually imagining they are the devs?
That aside can you proove skillfarms are netting less afk carebear ISK this month due to CCPs competition?
CCP don’t change anything! Stop letting keyboard gangsters ruin a good thing. Just say F what reddit has to say and make that money. They always have the option to not buy the pack no one is forcing them to. WTF
Well, forgive me if I’ve misunderstood (I agree this is common) but when you rail against farmers as not worth catering too, (you disparage the effort CCP lavishes on them) this could lead to less of them… less targets for hunters.
Oh how about this mind breaker then… give them more sp to start. Who could have ever thought of that idea to help new players out
Its different because injectors are created in game by other players using extractors. The SP is not magically created from thin air, it is “earned” by having an active subscription.
The outrage is because this is something CCP expressly said they would never do. (sell SP for Real Life money)
I need money, CCP. Do you understand? I need money. Give me my fuckin money
Good that no one could buy PLEX with RL money, sell it ingame, then buy injectors. Ok. Diminished returns but if you have enough $ to spend investing in salt…
I bought the pack, but was suprised when the cerebral accelerator was unusable on my character. This was not stated on the store page unfortunately. I like the 1m sp, and it could be a good pack for new players. But please note the details about the accelerator or split it into an cerebral accelerator and a damage booster (for <35 days).
I’d really agree with you if it wasn’t for holding corps (for structures, thus people avoiding getting shot at in war) and if it wasn’t for the insane intel network in null, and if it wasn’t for people (well, i know they’re bots but hey …) instantly docking up as soon as there’s someone non-blue. Not to forget that people in playercorps aren’t deccable by default anymore.
So … fun fact: there already are far less targets. Suicide ganking is basically the last thing you can do in highsec, which can not be evaded via game mechanics that don’t require your brain. Fitting your ship and being aware of your surroundings is hard … apparently.
Anyhow, this is just for you:
Imagine all carebear miners quit today. Jita is filled with plenty of ore and minerals. The game would last a month or so, maybe longer. The price for ore and minerals go up, but no carebear is touching mining. They’re all gone.
Suddenly the single most important profession (resource gathering) is worth doing again. Mining has value again. Like, you know, back when PvPers mined to build their battleships to shoot others.
That weren’t bears, you know?
So in come the PvPers yet again, taking mining back to where it belongs:
The conflict side of things.
And now YOU may figure out why that would be great for the game.
Try it.
Cheers.
Null would be pretty empty, not much change in low, and a small dip in high sec.
That’s accurate, especially for null, but I doubt that’d last for long.
Anyhow …
Good night, everyone.
CCP and metrics…I remember some graphics from fanfesf and how they interpretate them. I was really surprised how someone may be bad at reading data.
The part about exploration is what olmeca gold was saying. They are removing gameplay from the game (it is reason I log only for adding skills,my gameplay is dead).
You do know that I as a game player like you don’t need to explain either, you just prooved it, right? If they failed for over 10 year, how come they still turn a profit? Are your definitions of “failing” different? CCP does not need to explain, yet a CCP employee took his time to answer here. You are free to have an intelectual discussion like you usually have. You seem a bit emotional, as the questions look like a logical trap you stepped in.
I will start with the “I wish you good luck.” , yes you are very argumentative yet build your remarks with a solid base of long time experience in EVE Online and on the forums.
CCP does not have to know what to do, if they do something successfull, it will show by people still playing a game that is over 10 years old, a new generation of gamers have arrived and they are more drawn to smartphones and tablets than people were drawn to consoles. I wish I could explain how they have to move forward but honestly I don’t know and just enjoy playing the game eventhough a lot has changed. however most that changes is the player attitude to change. If things that are added and I don’t like them, well, that’s ok. I will just not play that part of the game and hope for better stuff next time and continue to try and enjoy the game even through nerfs and the occasional shattered dreams (where we on occaion were on the same position). I believe the selling of one time 1 mil xp is a good opportunity and grabbed it with both of my hands on some of my accounts. Is this good for the future? I honestly don’t know because it’s hard to understand how CCP wil interpret the sales data. And just between you and me (the rest of the forums have to stop reading now and go to the next post plx) … I know a large amount of players that have taken advantage of this offer so if it’s not exploited in some ways of retransferring -which can easily be traced by CCP- I guess it will not be too bad. But that is just my opinions and I can be wrong as I don’t know how CCP will push forward, I guess you have more experience in RL with those things.
Always nice to have a conversation with you, sometimes it’s difficult to butt heads with you as you always make a well tought out post but on this point I digress from your point of view. Maybe calm down on the last lines of your post, I apolegise to the owners of those accounts as I kinda trolled you with teh skillfarm remark which was disingenous by me.
