CCP lays of dozens and closes VR department

I haven’t tried an FPS in VR, but there are some interesting reads about it on reddit. It’s starting to sound like fixing VR FPS will be even harder than making VR hardware that works. If it progresses at the pace the rest of the video game industry has, it looks like we’ve got about 20 years before VR moves from shooting gallery games to FPSes.

But it was already known. Since then people tried to make something about that by making even more hardware you have to wear. They even started developing harnesses that make you feel the surrounding environment in the game.

Mimic is (according to the Twitter profile) “Development Producer”.
I guess that means her first role isn’t community development. We likely see her again.

I’m not 100% certain, but I think officially, day-to-day she’s a GM.

She clearly likes community outreach, so I could be wrong on that.

She is part of the development team.

World of darkness, Dust514 & Valkyrie. Three strikes and you’re out. So much for “world domination”.

I updated the OP to contain the link to ex-CCP LEELOO’s official heart-felt post on this matter.

A lot of us have opinions, yet here is the voice of someone affected and makes many important points.

The reddit thread has link

“See see ppe r teh bad”

Sorry, I just felt like joining in with the mob.

CCP is dead!
Long live CCP!

Honestly, I don’t think you can predict the health of CCP from a single story like this around a technology that is still in an early adoption phase.

This was a disaster. There is no other way to cut it.

As long as they dont try to make another innovation in gaming, they are alright.

I think EVE makes enough to sustain itself and development for next expansions.

Considering CCP’s development decisions over the past few years?

Right now, still yes. In 2 to 3 years, hahahahahaha, no.

Maybe they should be like Frontier and make a great engine and zero content then start developing 2 theme park games.

Swift recovery to anyone who lost there job.

To the topic creator. Please for the life of you learn how to proofread. The title of this topic is driving me insane.

Good luck and happiness for your future, all of you that that lost your jobs in the wake of this!

And I’d like to especially mention CCP Phantom, CCP Shadowcat and all the (other) Community Developers that worked for eve, plus

I’m not most people then. Never had a hint of motion sickness in Valkyrie. Then again, it’s designed to avoid it as much as possible.

(Haven’t had any in any other VR game I’ve played. Though ADR1FT did give me a headache after around 30 minutes)

My reading suggests it’s FPSes that have the motion sick problems. It has to do with unpredictable movements. There are some good reads on reddit about it. The only consistent solutions to the problems have been room-scale stuff, like a combination between those stupid xbox motion detectors and VR. Which leaves us with the same game catalogs from the 1980’s being the only thing playable.

Want CCP to be a success again, instead of an increasingly bottom rung laughing stock?

Hire back the actual talent you morons fired, and replace Hilmar. Hilmar is the one and only thing running this company into the ground.

I’ll adopt when the have full motion capture like the xbox 360 kinect and face capture for your avatar. I give it 12 years. Have to wait for someone in America to upgrade all them thar stoneage copper wires to new fiber optic cable or microwave transmitters.
