Interesting. Makes you wonder how representative these forums really are.
CCP do analyze this kind of thing. They donāt just say āX character have posted.ā, but pay attention to the actual people involved.
I would like to see them analyzing what these people actually post and how much sense it have. Sometimes one man can be right while the rest is just repeating nonsense over and over.
But then with only two community devs aroundā¦ its like talking to a dead man
Fake news.
There were exponentially more individuals than ā11ā that thought/said the entire mint chip fiasco from her hiring, to her eve trash-talk, to the nude pics, was a total embarrassment and mistake from the initial thought.
I wonder who will now want to apply to CCP for a dev position. It looks like a risky job. Few years and you are out if its something new, or slightly longer but still unexpectedly removed when Hilmar finally awakes and realized what he is doing.
I think some current devs will find better work somewhere else soon. Just like it happened with the previous escapes to Riot Games.
This video now happen to have slightly more grim meaning than before. Look at those people and say who is left.
The strange thing is if you go visit ccpgames.com the VR thing is still thereā¦
Very strange.
A pity, really. Iām actually looking forward to playing SPARC and Valkyrie. Iām holding out because the VR set currently costs about as much as a low-end PC and am waiting for them to slash prices by half in the next couple years.
It is a pity then, because neither of those games will be around in a year, much less the next couple.
Updating a web site also requires dev work and available working hours by the dev(s) involved. And as of yet, the products still exist and are somewhat āsupportedā, just wonāt get any (feature) updates.
Sooner or later, Products - CCP Games will only list eo as product - and whatever the next great thing is (project nova? giggles).
to be honest, i wish i could launch Eve on my iPadā¦
One more article, this time from Crossing Zebras. Basically about how community team helped EVE and how this supporting hand of community team made specially for players is now ignored by CCP.
I hope after this episode CCP starts taking monetization more seriously. Everyone is happily handing out everything for free and donāt understand that even company needs to earn money from somewhere. EVE store has been model example of bad monetization strategy.
Serious monetization does not mean ludicrously expensive monocles.
Serious monetization means that CCP offers wide array of services that have decent price level. It is like table filled with attractive looking candy. Profit comes from countless small transactions.
VR makers promised $250 headsets and gave us $900 headsets instead. So everything VR could have been, all the profits the VR team could have made, are held back due to the fact only a tiny percentage of players can afford VR.
so, RIP VR department o7
We need to wait for pronhub to release cheap chinese VR headsets before rift/vive are forced to bring their prices down.
- VR is cheap. Mobile VR is. You can buy cardboard for like $20 thatāll work with pretty much any android phone.
- VRās ultimate failure wonāt be because of pricing. Itās because itās not a good gaming platform. Iām not convinced a deep game would work in VR. Some casual games can kinda work. Nothing deeper than old school arcade, like the shooting gallery games CCP makes, and not even as deep as most mobile games.
- Because of the shallow nature of VR games, youāre basically getting a mobile experience without actually being mobile, which kinda defeats the whole point of those games.
- you did touch on the only really promising aspect of VR. Movie-like experiences. Especially skin flicks. Other than those, pretty much the only original stuff out there right now are either roller coasters or haunted houses. As far as I can tell, studios are just playing with the gimmicks rather than trying to make engaging content, and the ones trying to make engaging content kinda suck at it.
So really, Iām expecting the next VR runaway hit will be a TV series, but no way will it ever be a video game.
Your going to see the collapse of player CCP relationships. Allot of the interaction we did have came from those who are gone now. Allot of the support for those players who volunteer, ISD, and community events like Theomancy is gone. The only stonger footing that CCP is being place on is not having to pay those salaries.
i disagree. Sure, MOST of the VR games are mobile quality games, but then there is Battlefield, Fallout 4 VR & Skyrim VRā¦ And i have no doubt weāll find many more mainstream games including VR capabilities in their games.
We might see the first VR TV series on Twitch or YouTubeā¦ MAYBE Netflix. but i think VR is mostly game driven right now, and weāll find more developers adding VR support on mainstream games.
i donāt really count mobile VR because its not true VR. Itāll never run FO4VR or anything like itā¦ Sure you can watch youtube videos of birds fly around. But its not really VR, otherwise occulus would have just been an android.
Its possible there could be some kind of breakthrough marketing that sells a VR headset to older people to watch their new VR tv seriesā¦ maybe Amazon Prime Video?
All those companies adding VR to their games are doing it because itās easy, not because itās good. Take a look into why FPS games donāt work with VR. Nobodyās solved that problem yet, and when you look into the problem it starts to look unsolvable. Didnāt I hear Bethesda was saying something like āyeah, weāre adding VR to these games, but really, you wonāt like itā? VR games are ending up mobile quality because thatās what actually functions on the platform, the way the human machine interacts with a headset and controllers.
There are already VR TV series out there. So far Iām not finding them particularly compelling, but I suspect itās because they are still figuring out the tools.
All that said, when my wifi goes down and I have to switch to my phone for netflix, I actually prefer the VR version. Itās fuzzier, but it feels like having a 60"+ screen. It makes me wonder if maybe playing EVE on a virtual 100 inch screen might not be the best implementation of the technology.
Itās cool wen you undock and do things in space but since you inside station doing routine stuff VR its rather unnecessary and complicated then good to have.
What is this? Predatory capitalism at work, huh? omgā¦
