I heard about that once. If I recall correctly, it was because they were moving servers from one country to another. The last day in the former country, they did that for the lols. The server information was already backed up and being transferred to the next place, so they removed Concord and let players have fun with it while the old server was still up.
I don’t know if it’s entirely accurate - it was before my time too. But that’s the story I heard.
Some don’t like mining, or only not a particular type of mining.
Some don’t like mission running, or not a particular type of mission.
Some don’t like exploration, or not a particular type of signature.
Some don’t like WH space, or not a particular type of WH or WH exit.
Some don’t like low-sec PvP, or not a particular low-sec system.
Some don’t like Incursions, or only not armor Incursion fleets.
Some don’t like null-sec, or not NPC null-sec.
Some don’t like events, or not a particular type of event.
Some don’t like trading, or not a particular type of trading or market hub.
Some don’t like ECM, or not a particular type of e-war ship.
Some don’t like all factions, or only not Amarr.
Some don’t like all ships, or not T2 hulls.
…
I could go on with this list for a while, only I don’t like to. However, the best part about it is, that to everything players don’t like they also have very good reasons why they don’t like it. Most players can say exactly why they don’t like something.
Now we have new content, the Abyss, and all that’s happening is that some players discover what they don’t like about it and for which reasons they don’t like it.
Ultimately I wouldn’t disagree that mining is a bad system. Just everything people put forward that I’ve read is a worse system.
However that doesn’t magically make the abyssal space systems as they currently stand good.
The theory is sound. the execution flawed and the less said about rng on your rng on your rng for uber modules the better.
Even if this is usually more painful (i hate it with passion to lose even cheap ship to other player when i’m not going for pvp!!!) it is meaningful. You can learn something from it.
An interesting perspective. That’s actually the exact reason I loathe “rogue-like” games. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve tried a bunch of rogue-likes dozens of times. But it always comes down to “well I lost after five levels, but I have no idea if it was because I suck or an unlucky enemy spawn”. When you fail in most games, there’s implied feedback so you can get better. With RNG there is no such feedback, you can succeed doing almost everything wrong with lucky rolls of the dice, just as much as you can fail doing everything right but facing bad rolls.
I don’t mean to say this applies perfectly to Abyss space, but your post did remind me why I don’t tend to like randomization to that degree in games. Some random is fun, a lot of random can also be great fun, but too much random is just uninteresting.
I figure this is an attempt by CCP to increase the rate of (A)byss4/5 runs.
I was against the suspect flag before Abyss was introduced, as it categorically meant A4/5s would be run mostly/only in deep secure Player NS.
This change does not “reduce” the rate of HS PvP, any lower than it was before the introduction of Abyss pockets.
CCPs concern would seem to be that more A4/5s are run overall, to support the expansion and its associated markets. Whether it increases HS PvP is not relevant to that.
They spent time/money making Abyss content, and rationally want them to be run as much as possible. The suspect flag for A4/5 in HS is systemically impairing that.
TLDR: Abyss content was intended to expand on PvE options and introduce a new ship/weapon line and mutaplasmids, not to “fix” the rate of HS PvP.
Im pretty sure the test change will remain permanent, and I think it should.
If CCP wants to increase the rate of HS PvP, then they should finally bite the bullet and do so in a change dedicated to that purpose. Unfortunately any change to that is going to piss off one group or another, whether its HS carebears, NS NPC alts, suicide gankers, mass wardeccers or someone else affected.
It’s not even close to 500m an hour. Maybe for a short while in the very beginning but prices dropped very quickly.
Now you’d be lucky to get 100 to 150m an hour. At least it was at the time I stopped doing them which is right after you ganked me on the exit of my last site. Is that why you’re lying about the rewards? Well running dry and trying to get more ppl back into the abyss? I also have trouble invisioning a player actively hunting abyss runners (you) directly witnessing ppl running them for hours back-to-back… lol No hard feelings over the gank though it’s just what you’re saying isn’t true.
I have to admit, it’s not from own experience (I never ran a single site on TQ), but from different people talking about it recently. This combined with the back-to-back runner experience, let me assume some truth in it. Of course I know people lying about ISK all the time.
The story is really true, one of those I killed in June I was remotely watching in total over several hours on several days doing T4 sites with only a couple of minutes break before diving back into. It looked like he was in Abyss all the time, you know I have to catch him once in known space to know where he is. Once I knew the location he was dead. Now he moved to wormhole space, wise decision.
Regarding hunting, it was really exciting for a while, especially to optimize the hunting process (I know the char, you are dead, there is no luck involved) and fits (I carry 3 different Loki variants, I refit as hard counter on site with the depot), and the loot was nice of course. Also I got two “apprentices” who helped a few times.
But eventually it was the same procedure, so no challenge anymore, but a lot of travel and waiting, hence no more kills the last weeks (if you wonder ) …
… and yes, I would like to many more people running the Abyss sites with suspect flag Maybe I will find the passion to hunt again, if there is a second chance.
After I learned there will be an event incoming it was clear that it’s not about testing, but I doubt T4/5 will be farmed safely. Most will stop at T3 and farm the event. T4/5 need significantly better fits.
Nope. I told you already, fits must be better, chances of losing them are greater. Investstments must be returned. Events are boosters farms. Why people you know farm T4 and not T5? Even if T5 pays better.
