CCP sucks all flavour out of mining with 'Veldspar II-Grade"

It isn’t “overreacting”, it is expressing an opinion about a change that the overwhelming majority of the players seem to dislike. The developers should get feedback to correct bad decisions or make better ones in the future.

I like the new ore names, I like the new scanner module and the window we can open to target a specific rock. I like the new mining sounds and the faster mining cycles.
I like the new names because then I don’t have to guess or waste time.
I like the new scanner module and window because that way it saves me time.
I like the new mining sounds so when I’m looking at Local I know when the modules end their cycles.
Those are my tastes and preferences.
CCP did well by me.

If you are already guessing here and wasting time, you will have a hard time in any and all other areas of EVE.
Information gathering is your job in EVE. If you forgot which is which during mining, no problem: right click on the asteroids and check via its object information which is which. But of course if you were a serious miner you wouldn’t be in that situation anyway since you would automatically learn the names and from experience know which is which.

Those players who are intensive players and therefore learning it by doing it a lot - including me - are the ones complaining now. It is a non-issue and really dumbing it down for people who tell in advance that they don’t want to put any effort in it like you.

And we fight it vehemently, because where does it stop? Why do we have 6 Barges with 6 different names for example? Why don’t we have Low Tech Barge-I,-II,-III and High Tech Barge-I,-II,-III…no names needed at all. Problem is: dumb it down and EVE loses its soul.

I don’t care much for the new naming convention, but since you brought up this change, I will again comment. Placing hard modules on mining craft was fine, but it completely removes the available scanning modules for non mining vessels. So if I wanted to put a scanner on a Miasmos or a Catalyst, we can no longer do this. The why does not matter, the point is, it restricts our freedom and customization of ships. This is suppose to be sandbox, as in do anything and everything and it irks me, when people say they love being told what to do.

As for Rock 1, Rock 2, Rock 3, etc., it is dumb for obtuse players, who can’t think for themselves. Sure CCP will never revert the change. They make the rules, but sooner or later, the new rules come bite you on the ass, and no one is in your corner for that decision. CCP will have made the decision for you.

Have fun!

It’s okay, it’s jist a game. I’m only after the entertainment, whatever happens.

I don’t think so.
My job in EVE - for now - is to mine and kill NPCs. If CCP introduces ways to save time and not guess then I will like the changes.

I agree, except I’m not a serious miner. I’m a barista in the morning and a substitute gym teacher in the afternoon. I only mine in a game.

I don’t entirely understand your sentence but, yes, I’m not going to put more efforts than needed to play a game and if the devs provide tools to make it faster and easier of course I’m going to use them.

I don’t know where it stops but it doesn’t bother me.
And to answer your other questions, CCP should answer those, not me. I barely know the game as it is.

@Princess_Rose_Ivory

As a new player, this change doesn’t really feel like CCP taking freedom away so much as clarifying roles. EVE is already overwhelming to learn, and having clearer distinctions between mining, scanning, and combat ships actually helps me understand fittings faster.

I get why long-time players miss some of the flexibility, but from my perspective the sandbox still feels very open where it matters—risk, player interaction, and choices—while being a bit easier to read. The simpler naming isn’t the greatest thing, but it does reduce confusion without removing depth.

Not all long time players are against this change, just saying.

There hasn’t been any major pushback anyway. Reddit barely talks about it, Discord even less and this forum only had a few people complain. That says a lot. Maybe because the changes make sense and are very useful.

People stopped talking about it because CCP did nothing with the feedback they received.

Doubt.

Did you mean ‘as a new forum alt’?

Actually, that’s EXACTLY the reason why we have complaints here!

Just so I understand you correctly.
We have complaints here because the changes make sense and are very useful?

Yep.

I’m sure it makes sense to someone but not to me.

Must be an EVE thing…

I think we still have some improvement room for your regards.
I also want to clear things up - I never meant that I share any of these complaints myself. I meant to point out what the forum thinks.

And yes, you’re absolutely right, it doesn’t make sense at all. I love my forum regulars, and they’re all lovely people in their own special way. When it comes to ideas though, this is the worst forum I’ve ever been part of in my entire life.

You can point to any number of gamebreaking mechanics that are currently in the game, and no matter how sensible and unintrusive your change is, you will be walking into a shitstorm. Null sec members have alts in this forum on standby, and whenever someone accidentally posts an idea that goes against the interests of the nullblocs, you’ll get brigaded by them day and night, and they’ll say how your idea is really terrible and that you should get good and it’s your fault if you don’t have more dreads than all of goonswarm combined etc.
And far too often, I see our regulars join in with the chorus and it just makes me feel hopeless regarding any decent change making it’s way out of here.

I can only imagine how bizarre this all looks if you’re genuinely new to this forum. You’re walking into a battlefield here, where people will argue to the death for their line in the sand, and they will lie, misrepresent and manipulate BLATANTLY to achieve this. And none of this is about genuinely making the game better, but strictly to serve their own agenda or that of their faction.

So yeah, now you know what you’re getting yourself into here. Welcome to EVE! \o/

You didn’t have to guess with the original names either. It’s not like CCP randomly picked each rock’s composition after DT every day. ORE mineral composition was associated with specifc names. ‘Dense’ was 10%, ‘concentrated’ was 5%. It’s how it had been for 20 years. Nobody had to guess it. You learned it once and then you knew it forever. Unless you’re the type of person who can’t read. Then yeah, I’m sure you had issues.

Actually, it is more difficult to remember what does what or which has which if the names are just numbers. You can’t form associations that way, and these are things for associative memory.

I never had a single problem remembering that dense veldspar has an extra tritanium concentration of 10%. I couldn’t have imagined there were people for whom this was a problem. This is something only players who mine have to deal with. Mining being a relatively low key activity in itself, if you can’t take 5 seconds to open info on that rock and check it before you start mining it – a procedure you only have to perform once per type of rock–, then I don’t understand what such a person is doing in this game.

Stop whining about something that takes 5 seconds of your time. It’s no compliment to you exhibiting yourself on the internet as the slowest dumbest player in the game. You realize that, don’t you? (Probably not).

Good. So nothing changed. No guessing then no guessing now.

I prefer - III Grade over “Dense”, “Concentrated”…, it gives it more of a sci-fi feel to it.

Yes, I can’t read. That’s why I’m on forums.

I know, I’m new to it. You do it better as you’ve had more practice.

I did have a feeling about that.
Feeling confirmed.

I haven’t been here long but I saw what you mean. Only I don’t know the game as well so some of the ideas went right over my head.
Worst forum, eh…? Can’t wait to see more.

That hardly seems fair or honest but when I saw that we could have 3 characters per account, I kind of told myself that “fair” and “honest” may not come to this party. No wonder there are scammers and thieves in New Eden.

I like the layout and functionality of this forum, much better than others, cleaner and more organized.
As far as walking into a battlefield, most of social media is already a battlefield so I wasn’t too disoriented. And I know how people are about their opinions and how some feel that their words should be carved on stone tablets because they feel they are the greatest, most intelligent being on the planet.
It only makes me laugh.

Thank you for exposing the dirty secrets of this forum, James. I feel like I should pay for the guide.

Thank you! You’re the first one to welcome me to the game. I appreciate it.

Maybe you didn’t understand my post. I was argumenting against the change. The example with barges was given by the question of “why would CCP exactly stop dumbing down the game with the asteroid names if it turns out to be successful” - and i followed it with a barge example indicating that i don’t want to play a dumbed down game which is why i am against numbering names of the asteroid types. You have to stop things in their infancy or your game gets destroyed beyond recognition.

So many things have in fact been dumbed down already in EVE. Even affecting the once great universal modularity of ship fitting. I hate it so much when you arbitrarily can not fit a module anymore because of “roles” and whatnot. It reduces the sandbox to guided playing as if you can’t think yourself anymore. No creative or surprise fittings means loss of sandbox functionality. And that was not the only area over the years.

I suspect it is the developer who renamed all the ore, trying too hard to vindicate their actions. I suppose we shall never know for sure.

Have fun!
