You keep coming back to this ‘‘unnecessary’’ thread and posting. Why is that? We who find this topic worthwhile keep posting if we want – yes, it is called free speech, and free speech goes both ways, by the way – and we have no problems spending time outside or doing other activties that keep our minds healthy either. You find this topic unnecessary, but you keep talking about it. Me – I avoid reading threads/posts I deem ‘‘unnecessary’’ let alone posting replies to them. Look who’s talking about ‘‘unnecessary’’ and ‘‘stupid’’ activity.
Go back to the names. Calling everything I II and III is insulting.
Might as well do the same thing with ships. Instead of an Atron, call it ‘Gallente Ship Type-A1’, and a Megthron ‘Gallente Ship Type-A5’, and everything in between… Or ‘Gallente Small Ship’ and ‘Gallente Big Ship’.
This was one of the dumbest, most needless changes I’ve seen in my 17 years of playing Eve Online, right up there with Blackout in terms of pure stupidity and obvious detriment to the game.
blackout was amazing
One of these days, I’d like to fly one of the “Really Big Angel Cartel Ships” ![]()
Yes but you forgot about this future change. And this would make them Cyan and not Gallente. The Atron is called the Cyan Ship Type A1 and the Megathron is renamed the Cyan Ship Type A5. If they get this approved, I plan to move a lot of freight in the confusion.
Who knows what colors he will use for the pirate factions? It might be a “Really Big Yellow Ship” or “Really Big Orange Ship”, I always get those factions confused. we need you CCP Fozzie to lead us poor blind players out of the darkness and into the bright light of illiteracy! Please speak to us @CCP_Fozzie we are lost without your words!
Just imagine the aweseome ganks:
Groups of “Green Small Ship D1” kill “Blue Large Ship M2”!
Maybe they should also rename the currency to “coins”. “ISK” is way too complex for the audience. Someone might think they mean the real islandic currency and might sue them for fraud if he notices he can’t just “cash out” at an islanding bank!
Coin I, Coin II, and Coin III.
Which adult should I be getting?
I reccomend Adult VII.
A sexy one.
In real-world mining, professionals rarely rely on casual or popular names for what they extract. Instead, they use technical mineral and ore names that reflect precise chemical composition, crystal structure, and geological context. For example, a miner doesn’t say they’re digging for “iron” but for hematite or magnetite; not “copper” but chalcopyrite, bornite, or malachite. These terms matter because different minerals containing the same metal behave differently during extraction and processing, and they indicate distinct formation environments, grades, and economic value.
This technical language also helps miners, geologists, and engineers communicate unambiguously across exploration, extraction, and refining. A deposit might be described as a “massive sulfide,” a “vein-hosted quartz–gold system,” or a “lateritic nickel ore,” each phrase carrying specific expectations about hardness, impurities, processing methods, and profitability. In practice, miners think less in terms of the end metal and more in terms of ore type, gangue minerals, and grade, because those details determine whether the rock is worth moving at all—and how it must be treated once it is.
In Eve, apparently the name of the rock is the most important aspect.
Not anymore.
This is exactly the reason why the old names used to be so good.
It used such descriptive and flavourful names for each of the ores!
Now we just have a plain and boring number, instead of a descriptive name.
It has come to my attenetion that you do not like numbers which is very odd as you are playing spreadsheets in space.
Does maths make your brain hurt Capsuleer 67390573 ?
just wait, once they have changed the solar system names to catalogue numbers, also the ships and modules, you will finally understand how awesome all of that is.
Just imagine those battle reports:
“Today big Alliance 543 attacked medium alliance 332 in star system A-565 using large amounts of blue big ship B-II outfitted with large weapon H-II from long range. The defenders managed to form a fleet of gold medium ship C-III and engaged them close using not-warp II modules to prevent them from fleeing. With their medium weapon L-II damage they were able to achive a great victory!
The total losses in the fight summed up to 32 million million coins! The attackers will probably need large time M-II to recover from this defeat! Stay tuned and wait for our next report in time-D1!”
Reminds me of that system i once saw- J005926(C1)
I have nothing against numbers per se, and use them a lot while playing. I just think numbers are very plain and boring as names of items in a game.
Yeah wouldn’t it be totally awesome and progressive to just give them all numbers? What kind of old grumpy boomer dev could have ever the idea to give them names??? We don’t need any names in this game any more! In the end, they should even revert all capsuleer names to plain numbers!
