I’ve noticed that the last couple of drops required 2h of watch time instead of 4. Not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.
No one really watches Twitch streams for 4 hours for the duration of the drop. The most realistic scenario is 1h, after that, those who really want the rewards (ex. unique SKINs) are just leaving Twitch to run in background. Now, I’m not an eco-obsessed activist, but I do know waste when I see it (electricity, processing power, bandwidth,… on both server and client side).
Since I’ve worked in digital advertising for the last 8 years (software integrations with ad servers and managing the lifecycle of ad campaigns, from creation to serving and analytics), I know the original reason behind requiring long watch times - it gives Amazon the opportunity to show more ads. But those ads are served to no one, since no one really watches the stream for 4 hours.
Anyway, I don’t even think that this deserved a post, but hey … so little has been happening recently with online and services in general that makes sense, that I just felt the need to praise one decent thing.
I’m really not sure how anyone could find it a good idea for anyone to require accounts on different services and give you a bonus for spending time there. Where does it end? I need a twitch account, a discord account, a facebook account, an X account, a reddit and instagram account all with intertwining to just be able to enjoy an internet spaceship game?
They know, unfortunately. The number that is considered as being acceptable as a CTR (Click Through Rate) has been steadily decreasing over the years as the advertising industry expands.
You can do that just fine without any of it, just choose to not do it. No one is forcing you because they don’t have to, as they know human nature all too well.
People WANT those things because of FOMO and they’re more than happy to give them their information, ad data, time and effort for it. Don’t like it, don’t participate.
It is also not really a FOMO feeling…it is something in between…as i play the game as multiboxer as encouraged by CCP, i can not get the rewards for all my EVE accounts. It is like a mechanics oversight. I pay for the accounts and can’t get the benefits for all of them, even if i wanted. So i am rather angry that it even exists and is not designed with multiboxing in mind.
Surely you could, but not retroactively. If you started playing before the Twitch thing was introduced, you wouldn’t have had that need and just used the same Email address for your accounts, which anyone sane would do. On top CCP had about 10 years or something ago introduced that you have to link all your accounts that use the same Email adress together. So you wouldn’t even be able to take that apart anymore.
Also you would need the same amount of twitch accounts and the same amount of activity on twitch.
All possibly doable, but the negligence of the thought on that mechanics is a sign of bad game design, since the game has enforced you into that setup which makes it impossible to reap the benefits, while at the same time CCP gladly accepts your money for the accounts as a paying customer.
I don’t even watch the stream at all, just mute the tab and leave it running in the background and check it from time to time to make sure it hasn’t broken or to see if i’ve triggered a reward
