The best ship in EVE is the one that makes you excited to undock or play. For what ever reason.
After 20 years I’ve had several but here are my notables

The Thorax. Back in 2004 i was sat in Chaven and mining. I decided to go lower sec for some better rewards but got in trouble with some rats. i cried for help in local and not long later this dude in a Thorax warped in. And yea i remember watching him and flying my little frig round it in awww. That was to be my next ship. And thus the 20 year addiction started.

The Armageddon. Similare to above. Was the first battleship i saw and loved.

Megatrhon. Nothing like having and epic in your face blaster battleship experience.
Atm i think I enjoy the Marshal most. It looks badass and is fun to get out.
Or you could be a bit more scientific and go by most used ship but thats boring aint it.

So far I like the Catalyst. It has plenty of hardpoints, enough CPU and powergrid to fit it with nice modules, 304,8 m/s is decent and good protection at 4,097 ehp and more depending on the skills.
It’s weird that it’s lop-sided but oh well, nothing is perfect.
I have a story much like yours. I was Badger mining when a mighty Myrmidon warped into the belt. I fell in love with it immediately.
That was the day I switched from training Caldari to training Gallente.

The Cat always reminded me of like WW2 bombers. Very good boat. The Navy cat is also nice.
Im not going to give a list of the best solo ships in eve because fk u is why, but i do have a Bowhead thats got 6 ships in it… and no matter you fly, your gonna lose it unless I make a mistake. (btw, Cats are trash tier, I throw you out of my fleet and kick you from corp for being in one unless its a gank.)
Ok maybe I mention one that i just dont fly but its fkn hardcore.
Triple Ancil Vargur. If you get close enough to actually threaten it with a point, you have two choices. fly away or die and good luck flying away if you let the Varg get a point on you. Thats its weakness… you can choose to fly away.
One of the reasons solo pvp is dead on gates is because of CCP. Scan res is too low to lock anything that would be a good fight and at the same time, If you could get a lock, the enemy can simply fly back to the gate. CCPlease… realize how ridiculous that situation is for solo pvp.
Old school BOB pilots still get their jimmies rustled when they think of the Thorax.
It’s true, it does have a ww2 bomber look. Looks kind of funny but it’s a good ship.
Not much better than the Catalyst with less hardpoints. I see no improvement.
Doesnt it have the things that make it a better pvp ship? A little faster, higher scan res and more agile than the normie version?
It also has an extra mid, so you can have scram and web, instead of just one or the other.
One way to tell if someone is a pvp noob is to ask them about the ship. If they quote the DPS and EHP… yer a fkn nub. A nibnubnoob.
T3 Cruiser. It’s cheap, fast, and powerful.
I can cloak and explore Low Sec, do L3 missions without any of the ships getting through the armor tank, and I can travel with it. It’s my go-to ship now. I use an exhumer for mining and a freighter for hauling- other than that, I’m always in my Proteus. It even handles battleship rats with ease. As I continue to train my skills, it’ll only get even better.
Edit: It has great drone abilities. Another perk! Basically, it’s priced as a disposable ship, but doesn’t act like a disposable ship.
It’s supposed to be a game about spaceships but most of the ships are butt-ugly.
I don’t know if these are good or not but I like the Stabber

These are some of the best looking ships in the game
Upwell haulers and freighters. Specifically the Avalanche. Missiles, massive hauling ability for infrastructure, and it can reach 700,000 EHP just for fun! Though it’s smarter to fit a massive MWD on it for speed and faster align times.
Not only are these ships great at hauling, but they look absolutely stunning!
I fly an Avalanche and a Deluge and I love them.
That’s sad. They aren’t even that nice looking.

there’s no such thing as the best ship in eve, every ship has a purpose for a certain task at hand
Even badly fitted ones.
(Their purpose is to perish and become killboard material people can laugh at and new players can learn from.)

The all powerful Skiff. It can achieve over 200 EHP without even being overheated or using blue mods and, thanks to its mass being reduced, can now align at a fair speed. When you need to deter attacks, it’s the next best thing to having a logi ship always pointed at you. The drone bay will hold 5 medium drones, 5 mining drones, and 5 salvage drones. I love that ship!
The Cynabal is the mutt’s nuts mate, if it wasn’t basically useless to me I’d live in that thing.
