Your idea of free ships would be unbalancing in oh so many ways. We could claim them, reprocess them and never mine again, making bigger ships out of the free small ones. Gank fleets would be able to run cruisers with no loss whatsoever. If you saw what Burn Jita was? That only more so.
I am not sure if I qualify a a coaster vet. People seldom set drinks on me and I do keep active in my own ways. But just the same? No, I think your idea has a lot going against it.

@Mike_Azariah You don’t get an insurance payout when you reprocess a ship.
You could lose them, on purpose, and make some return, but the production time, itself, on ships, will be a problem. There was once a nearly 100% reprocessing value, which was reduced due to exactly what you said.
I suppose, if you build up the skills and want to destroy ships fast enough, with that much human interaction, making insurance policies, you could go above the 50% return, now, but still not achieve the level possible before the reprocessing nerf.
The possibility of abuse by the very, very equipped, and skilled, is not enough to deny advantage to the unwashed masses.
ah but that IS the thing. There is no advantage for said unwashed masses if the it just causes the spread between the rich and poor to grow even wider. Advantage in the game is always relative, not absolute.

I’m a relatively new player. Started playing the game, liked it and worked out it was probably most efficient to play as an Alpha for 6 months then upgrade. Turned out that after 5 weeks I was at the point where Omega would improve my game play and unlock stuff I needed. So I subbed, and haven’t looked back.

In my opinion that is the exact purpose of Alphas status accounts. It should be treated as a trial before you dive deep into the game.
If you want to play game at it’s full potential either pay up or earn ISK to plex like the rest of us.

That slim margin of victory? Would it have existed, in a fair fight? Not that anything is fair, in eve, mind you, and it’s a question that the value of which is entirely personal.
Your mileage may differ. That’s fine. Just don’t think you’re all that, when you hit any T1 pilot, if you’re flying better.

I don’t hit T1 pilots, I spent a good while pulling them out of wormholes and now I fight Drifters. Last pvp I did was killing a blingy Leshak with a Typhoon.
