Good morning, folks. Just caught up on this thread. I’ll be using Salvos and Dryson tears to salt my breakfast…
Ok, so suppose it did have a significant enough attrition of players, what would you propose we do that doesn’t totally denaturize the game in nerfing the freedom to perform such heinous acts ?
Make HS 100% safe ?
Also, you’d need to consider the rate at which player return to the game for such a study to make sense.
Absolutely not.
Well then… ? What would be the point of such a study ?
Try not to clog up your arteries with all of it
Well Dryson does exist in a completely different reality created by him for him. He likes using my name and CODE together even though I don’t gank.
His alt did die horribly at my hands though. Terrible PVPer.
My primary direction would be expanding/improving mechanics of legal ganking.
Absolutely not.
You asked me that before, and I already answered the same.
Stats are indicating rate of suicide ganking is increasing.
CCP should keep an eye on this and continually investigate it, as to whether it is causing player attrition, as a unique form of HS aggression.
More isk destroyed can only mean people are carrying more isk around. It doesn’t 100% mean there are more ships dying…
That’s a poor assumption.
I can indeed confirm that more and more oblivious players are carrying around stupid amounts of ISK in cargo and modules in untanked, autopiloted ships…
And this is one of the reasons why gankers exist.
If no one would fly around afk with millions or even more in their untanked ships, or stay in belt afk, the gankers wouldn’t get their kills and loose the will to gank.
In my opinion there is only one way to deal with this “problem” and that is active flying of a tanked ship. Doesn’t matter if you’re standing in a belt, flying a mission, haul some minerals, move your stuff and so on…
Changing the game mechanic about ganking in HS is one of the worst ideas on how to deal with ganks. But thats my opinion, feel free to disagree.
Like I said before, those stats on their own don’t mean squat if you don’t have counterbalance stats of returning players to go along with, and it sure as hell wont help make a case to “improve” said mechanics.
Then by all means, please do enlighten us and expand on what improvements you’d have in mind without turning HS into a kitty-friendly themepark.
And to quote QuakeGod above:
I can indeed confirm that more and more oblivious players are carrying around stupid amounts of ISK in cargo and modules in untanked, autopiloted ships…
CCP would have to quantify that into consideration as well, and should they be held responsible for their players mistakes ? No.
That depends on data.
The seminal point here, is whether suicide ganking is causing more player attrition, than it retains.
That is a work in process, and largely involves expanding/improving legal methods of aggression in HS, as opposed to illegal methods of aggression.
The only legal method of aggression in high sec is a war dec, and you can’t war dec players hiding in an NPC corp…
And let’s agree that limiting highsec pvp to wars would render people like me 100% safe.
And that would go against the basic principles of EVE… (Aka Everyone Versus Everyone)
And ultimately, CCP would lose more paying customers than it would otherwise
Unfortunately, the potential to pursue illegal activity is where the fun is for a lot of people in this game, and as soon as you try to control and turn it into something consensual or by legal gameplay, it loses its charm.
You’re welcome to try but you’ll just end up wasting your time, and ours.
In the broadest sense of the word ganking is a legal activity in that, despite there being a penalty timeout, it is within the rules of the game.
Not only it has a timer, you get a sec status hit too
True, but it’s “illegal” within the games own lore rules, ie Concord.
So Illegal from an RP standpoint.
Murdering and stealing is illegal ind mostly any land on earth. Still there are many people doing it and getting arrested/killed for it.
Concord is just a part of the enviroment, wich should punish the ganker for doing something wich isn’t allowed. Concords job isn’t keeping your ship alive.
It’s illegal according to New Eden’s laws (ie CONCORD retaliation), but it’s legit according to game mechanics (ie not banned by CCP if doing it).
Umm that’s what EVE makes EVE and not a billionth samey MMO like WOW. Are you saying CODE. should behave more like WOW players to be better at the only game that is not WOW?
So what? It is a sandbox, highsec is not supposed to be safe. You still haven’t answered my question that I asked like 200 posts ago - why should suicide ganking be niche in the first place? As others have already stated, if players don’t like that highsec is not safe, EVE is the wrong game for them anyway.
