If you are in company of a halfling and a dwarf, running from a dragon, you don’t have to be faster than the dragon. You just don’t have to look as juicy as the idiot in the blinged out Hulk…
Killing a Venture is an act of mercy anyway. It shows the (hopefully) new player that there isn’t much to be had from going in this direction in the game. If no one touches them, they’ll just keep plinking away at the asteroids, slowly upgrading their ship, until they’re finally in a Hulk with faction gear, and then when they inevitably lose that, it becomes something they can’t recover from.
Killing a Venture might cause a player to quit the game. Killing a bling boat that they’ve spent a year grinding for guarantees it.
Indeed it is long known that killing new players will improve their retention.
However, I don’t care much about retention, I’m not working for CCP, that is their job. That is why I usually just kill older players who may drop something nice…
Actually I do kill a Venture if see the pilot is older and make sure I get the egg… the things they sometimes have in their heads! Just some “relaxed mining” with the “training clone” in safety… nice
